Joint changing & repair questions

Hi

I've multiple shafts and butts which don't fit each other, so I need to get some work done on them.

Firstly, I'm thinking about converting the Pred 314-2 shaft I have on my Pechauer to a uniloc. How easy is this to do and how much would it cost? Most importantly, will the hit be exactly the same as if I bought a uniloc 314 off the shelf? Is it easy to reverse the process if I decide I don't like the conversion, or are any changes permanent?

Next, I have a uniloc Z shaft that I want to convert to a Viking QR - how much and how easy? Do CMs need viking inserts or can they make them themselves?

Also, in a moment of madness I've bought a USS - is it easy for me to add the adaptor myself, or do CMs have to do it?

Finally, I have a uniloc Z shaft that, whilst rolling straight by itself, has quite a wobble when attached to the butt. The pin on the butt is straight, which I know because I've attached other shafts and they're fine, so the shaft insert itself must not be aligned correctly. So, how quick, easy and expensive would it be to correct this - and what is the procedure?

Cheers

inserting shafts

it can be done, but you have to cut insert out, plug the shaft and do the whole inserting process.i don't think it would change the hit much ,if any.there is always a risk of the tooling grabbing and splitting the shaft,i would'nt trust any heating process, due to it being a laminated shaft.then there is the diameter issue between the shaft and the butt, this can be fixed by some finishing work, but may make it impossible to go back to present if it has to be reduced to mate.i've done several of these if you're interested in a quote,i will need more info. tom 540-230-2188

On all inserts, I found it easy to bore out the existing insert, plug the hole and start fresh. If switching to a uni-loc quick release, I plug it with phenolic, then do the steps for the insert, reason being, the threads on the uni-loc insert, are not really for wood, It can pull out very easy by constant tightening. Next,

Any standard 5/16X18 insert can be modified to convert it to the Viking quick release. Plug the hole after removing the insert and start fresh.

You can do this yourself.

I would check the facing first, if I thought the insert was crooked, I would re-do it with another insert like the steps, I described above. Hope some of this helps.
