Need shafts turned down to smaller dia.

As the title says. I have about 8-10 shafts that I want turned down to a smaller diameter and I need to see if one of the cuemakers on the forum can/will turn down these shafts for me. They are ALL 13mm and MOST all are NEW, UNUSED shafts with the exception of maybe 2 or 3 that are used shafts, all from various cue makers. They are all 13mm and I want MOST turned down to 12mm and a few down to 12.5mm. 13mm is just too fat of a shaft for me and I can't shoot with half my cues until I get the shafts turned down.

If any of the great cuemakers here on the forum can/will do it, PLEASE post here or send me a PM so we can discuss how much it will cost to have that many shafts turned down for me, hopefully someone reputable can give me a "bulk" discount for having to turn that many down at one time. There are about 10 shafts total from about 5 different cue makers. Thanks in advance for any help from any of the cue builders.

About any good cue maker or repair guy can do this for you

but my advise to you...IF YOU think its a cue you may not want to keep

a 12 mm shaft will maybe not lower the value but it will shrink the number of people interested ..

Another thought not every piece of shaft wood has what it takes to still play good at 12 mm just my opinion

If you have a preference for a particular taper and would like to have that
taper on all of these shafts, I'd suggest you solicit the services of a CM
that does his shafts via CNC.

Mojo, Thanks for the input and the PM. ALL my cues are pretty much with me for life, I do tend to sell and buy alot of different cues, but all the ones I have that I am wanting the shafts turned down on, will be cues that I keep and not sell. I still have my very first McDermott that I bought 26 years ago when I was 16 years old, so tend to hang onto my cues that I LIKE for pretty much my lifetime,lol.

Also a very good point and thanks for bringing that to my attention, but if I don't play with the cues at all because they have a 13mm shaft, at least with a 12mm or even a 12.5mm shaft, they'll at least get played with. I have some BRAND NEW cues that I've had for 6-8 months that haven't been chalked yet because they have 13mm shafts. My McDermott that I bought when I was 16 years old came with a 12.5mm shaft so ALL my life that is what I played with and just can't get use to a 13mm shaft.

Thanks again Mojo, I will be in touch. I've got at least one, if not two cues I'm waiting on to arrive to me before I can send all the shafts off. Concerning the wood type, if it would help or make a difference, I can tell you who each shaft is from or from which cue maker they are from.

I don't think I'm experienced enough to have a preference to a particular taper,lol. I was always told a standard taper was 10" and a pro taper was 12" but if you put one of each shaft in my hand, I probably couldn't tell you the difference, as long as the tip/ferrell is 12mm or 12.5mm, I can play with it.

Why not get one turned down to 11.75, one 12.25, and one at 12.75. Not all 8-10 shafts, then play with those awhile until you do have some sort of experience to base your judgement on. You may need the above suggested differences in order to even tell which diameter feels best to you. I shot gunned all around the range you asked for. When you finally decide which is best for your style of play, get some more cut down to that diameter you feel is best, and vary the taper on the three perhaps? Now you practice with them and learn more about which you like best. How will you ever know your true likes and dislikes if you have little experience? If you cut them all in one fell swoop, you may have little more than an expensive little pile of kindling. Just a thought. Best wishes.
 
I would suggest getting one shaft and go to one of the local cue repairmen around Augusta and get them to taper it down to 12.75 and see if you like it. If not take another one down to 12.5" and try it and so on until you hit gold. Or get a deal on 4 shafts at once taken down each in 1/4 mm incredments from 12 to 12.75mm. Then turn them all down to what you like best. With a few repairmen around Augusta you should not have to send it off or wait.

The reason I want all of them turned down is because for all my life I have shot with a 12.5mm shaft, NEVER a 13mm. It's not that I have little experience, I've been shooting pool for over 30 years, I'm just not that "experienced" with the tapers. I recently bought a Carolina Customs that has one shaft at 11.5mm and another at 13mm, I absolutely LOVE the 11.5mm shaft. My very first cue I bought when I was 16 years old had a 12.5mm shaft and that is ALL I have ever played with for the last 26 years, but after shooting with a 11.5mm shaft, I was going to split the difference from the 11.5mm and the 12.5mm and have one of each shaft turned down to a 12mm and the other half of them turned to a 12.5mm since I like the 11.5mm on my CC and I KNOW I shoot well with a 12.5mm. I KNOW what diameter I want or can play with, that is not a question. I never said I have little experience, I just said I have little experience concerning the actual tapers, as far as the diameters, I KNOW I want a few at 12mm and the other half at 12.5mm.

Again, while I am not UN-experienced, I HAVE been out of shooting pool for the last 13 years, being in Augusta my whole 42 years of my life, I don't know a single person locally that I would trust to turn down my shafts, being out of pool for so long, I have lost all contact with all the people I use to play with and/or they have stopped playing and moved on. Having shot with a 12.5 ALL my life, I KNOW I at least want them at 12.5, but I recently bought a Carolina Customs that has one shaft at 11.5 and I LOVE that shaft, so I was going to split the difference and have half of them turned to 12.0 and the other half to 12.5, since I KNOW I LIKE and CAN play with a 12.5 shaft. I definitely don't want one at 12.75, I do know that. I AT LEAST want them at 12.5 and maybe a few at 12.0. IF you know of any GOOD repair guys in my local town of Augusta, shoot me a PM with some names, I can guarantee you I most likely know them, there ARE a few around, but the ones I PERSONALLY know of, I wouldn't trust to turn down my shafts. I would rather have a VERY EXPERIENCED repair guy OR even a cue builder do the job for me. I have other cues to shoot with while they are sent off. One of my actual best friends that I USE to shoot with and run the street with is a cue repair guy local to me, even he said he was uncomfortable turning down the shafts and he's seen them in person, basically because he does have experience, but not ALOT of experience, and in my eyes, he's a pretty decent repair guy.

With YOU being in Georgia, is this something that you could do for me ??? Do you have the use of a cnc machine ???

Thanks David. You are about the 3rd person to refer me to Steve. I HAVE sent him a PM tonight, just haven't heard back from him yet. He is about 2 1/2 hours from me, easily driving distance for me. Hopefully I will hear from him in the next few days.

Yes I have CNC and could do it. But most shafts will not be turned on a CNC. The reason is unless the shafts are perfect they need to be sanded instead of cut down, lest you get egg shaped shafts. To take them all down I will be glad to quote you on them. Just call me between 2 and 6pm weekdays and let me know the brand of shafts and what size you want each shaft. 770-684-7004

Thanks Chris. I'll give you a call in the next day or two. I'll try to today if I'm not too busy at work.
