there have been several threads on here bashing the apa and most of it has been over slop shots being allowed.
in every one of those threads that i replied to i have defended the apa. i have countered with the argument that i dont see much of it at levels 4 and above in my division and that its legal at the pro level except on the 9 ball. thats why most have went to 10 ball.
well the reason i started this thread is after i played in the 9 ball top gun this weekend i feel there is some justification for why some of you feel that way.
in my 1st match i went up against a 5 and i am a 4. the race is 38-31. after 2 racks the score is 10-10 with him breaking the 3rd rack. he makes 1 on the break and continues making balls till he gets to the 5. so far in the match there have been no safeties or any slop. he is a very good shot maker but his position play is subpar for his level in my opinion.
well he is on the 5 as i said with it being close to the center of the short rail down the table with the cue ball up table close to the other short rail. he has no decent shot so he just knocks the chit out of the 5 ,it come back up table bouncing of the rail going back down hittin the 7 knocking theit into the side pocket sending the 5 caroming off and going into the bottom left corner pocket. he then proceeds to pocket the 6,8 and 9 winning the game and the score is now 20-10.
i am thinking damn how do you fade that shit ? i wont make this post too long telling how many more slop shots he made but will just say he won 38- 24. i was frustrated and pissed at the same time.
in my next match i faced another 4 and i was still pissed and i just took it out on my game beating him 31-12.
in my 3rd match i faced another 5 losing 38- 29. lost by 2 points. no excuses the guy just outshot me.
yea i hate slop just as much as the next guy but when i play guys that resort to it i am just going to me more determined to outplay them.
my game has picked up quite a bit the last month or so. i finished in 1st place in top gun points after last session and after 5 weeks into this session i am 4-1 in 9 ball beating our lo last week who is an 8. it was a hard fought win 31-52. he played several safeties in the last few racks trying to keep me from scoring when i got close to my needed points. i always managed to kick or somehow make contact to keep him from getting ball in hand.
he told me afterwards that i played outstanding and if i kept that up i would be moving up again. i told him thats what i wanted to do. he said he could make it happen. i said no no no . i want to earn it dont raise me for the heck of it. we both got a laugh out of it.
bottom line im not going to bash the league , im just going to keep improving and outplay the nits who resort to slop. if i get out of position i will play a safe not resort to knocking the chit out of a ball and hope something falls in 1 of the 6 pockets.
sorry for the long post. i just got irritated over that and wanted to get it off my chest.
what are your thoughts , without resorting to league bashing lol.
