Really not into a silent auction. Why not post a price?

Thanks,
Alan

There's a cool idea but it's certainly not up to me. Do an open auction. Take bids until Friday midnight or something like that.

I'll start it at $100

Since it all appears to be dimensioned already, can you post the dimensions of the cuts?

I could use some ivory, but the way that is cut up appears to limit it's uses...

my bid 00...i'm sorry but after looking at this a little more i'll pass good luck with your sale!

Right this is not Ebay.Your bid is your contract.I did not post a price because I was not sure of its value.I was trying to be fair that is why I offered it this way.Backfired!

The $125 offer I PMed you is still good.
Given that it has at least 8 significant cracks, several connected and it surely wasn't sealed properly, I would be scared to use any of the large chunk to make ferrules so I would only get small slabs...... most of which is going to fall apart. And then there's the danger with cutting something that hard which will crack and fall apart. I mean absolutely no offense I just can't see offering more.

Can you please provide your source that appraised this at 300.00?

That will help dramatically in your sale.

Also, did you accept any of these bids? There is no contract without acceptance, if you want to get legal....

A bid can be retracted at any time for any reason. Before the hammer falls or item is knock off sold. After the item has been called sold or the hammer falls makes it a binding contract. I'm sure you need a auctioneer license in PA. I'm a full time auctioneer with 18 years in the business. Auction law questions I will be glad to help. There are a few problems with this sale. Ivory must have documents for stating the age of the ivory.

Which Auction House do you work for in PA? We used to go to a lot of auctions in PA, Stoners, Horst, PA Auctions, etc... We would get great deals on Books, Asian items, China and Glassware but the prices on Country items and Silver always went way too high. Although, one time I did get an old silver beer stein for $70 that was made out of solid Sterling Silver and weighed over a pound. I guess nobody new the hallmarks meant sterling. At the time I could have melted it for over $300. I used it at a couple parties then sold it on ebay.
