Well boys just wanted to give an update! I started playing on Dec. 1st, thanks to everyone with helpful rules and tips and about 60 hours of youtube, I think I am improving:) The table I play on is only a 10 ft, and plays with 9 red, so maximum is 90. I should note that this table is tighter than regulation, it is a converted billiard table. I have not had a maximum yet, but I have broke 50 a couple of times and 60 once...I also appear to be moving up the ranks guys that beat me like a drum 4 weeks ago, I am spotting 10 and 20 points..I can't tell you how much I love the game! It's my bad luck...fall in love with a dead game:) I am considering a move to Britain! LOL...

Keep it up!! It is a very addicting game without a doubt. Playing on a 5 x 10 is certainly different from a 6 x 12. But please don't take that the wrong way.

I was fortunate to play in a room that had both sizes, and I played and enjoyed both. Currently I play on a 12 footer, and practice as much as I can.

Snooker is my favorite of the cue games, but I love them all.

Gotta correct your math...a maximum with 9 reds is 99.

I'm curious...do you rack the 6-ball with the reds to form a triangle...
..or do you make a 9 red diamond behind the 6-ball?
I have played both ways.

btw..50's and 60's are strong runs on a tight table..good for you
 
OOOPPS! I forgot to count my reds :) the math still throws me! LOL! Yes The 6 is racked on the 6 spot with the reds behind...just like a ten ball rack. I have found that I get better results on the break by using high english and about 1 tip of outside trying to barely graze the bottom red. When my speed is right the cue will go 3 rails (head rail, side rail and foot rail), then snug up to the back side of the 3 or 2 depending on which side i broke from. Ya, the pockets on this thing are RIDICULOUS! If the ball is fronzen on a side rail more that 12 inches form the hole...FORGETABOUTIT!!! it won't ever go. But man am i hooked. I practice/play every day on my lunch break. yesterday I went 4-1 for 20 a game and the one I lost was a fluke...7 ball was a little below the 6 spot and the cueball was about 12 inches below the 4 spot...I cue it in..nothing but the leather! but the the cueball went 2 rails to scratch in the corner by the 3 spot...it was crazy! Anyway, Thanks for all the support!!...Hey "Underclocked"...a few more months you might see me @ the Hood game ;)

Try breaking from the second last red...same hit.
The break is an advantage (like 1-pocket) so if you spread the reds a
little more and park whitey where you intended, your opponent's mistake
could be more costly. Leaving the pack tight is not aggressive enough.
Don't be discouraged if you mess this break up, it's a repeatable shot
so you will learn it. It's not nearly as tricky as the 1-pocket break but
just as effective.

Thanks!! I will try this today on my lunch!...I assume you are referring to the second red from the bottom...not the red right behind the 6?

Second LAST red from where you break..3rd ball from 6-ball.

....sooo, would you call this a 'lunch break'?:)
 
Jon, the Hood's game :grin: is low stakes and for entertainment only. My big win down there was about $10 for the whole of an evening. But we've a player or two that might be convinced to play snooker straight up (my past is definitely not my present).

Dave Hathman plays very good snooker still, and of course Andy Craig can still pot a few balls. (He's British, but oddly is one heckuva nice guy! :wink: )

Have you played Daren lately?

Ya I played Darrin...no stakes and he was taking it easy on me..he won, but not by over 10 pts....I lost 100 playing a guy and I got a brutal roll! full taable pot on the 5 with 6 and 7 easy...I made the shot right off the back of the pocket! All leather! 5 disappeared then circled out of pocket to sit right on the edge :( so unlucky!

I'm pretty excited I have a Jim Pierce cue coming...59" with a 12 inch extension..should be pretty cool!
 
That extension could be a big help, even on a 10 footer. One weakness I would definitely have is using the bridge on a 12 footer. I play to avoid bridge use and that is probably not always the best plan on a 12.

Be sure to share some good pics of that Pierce cue when you get it.

will do for sure!! I am pretty confident with left handed play and with the bridge...just talked to Jim last night and my cue should be here next week!!!
 
WOOHOO!! Had a 77, 44, 51 today!! I beat a guy all day that beat me a month ago...:) I can't get enough of this game!
