For those of you willing to brave the cold weather of North Dakota, I've included the average temperatures for Minot, ND for March and April of 2010. I don't have the 2011 temperatures but at least these numbers prepare you a bit.

This is just in case you are considering going to the 4Bears Casino
($16,000.00 ADDED money) tournament.

The average temperatures for March and April of 2010 were 37.5/54.6 fahrenheit. I'm not going to wear the UnderArmour "base" clothing and will only use their traditional cold weather crew shirt for this event. Living where I live, I use mostly their hot gear which is of course designed to keep you cool.

Hopefully April will warm up a bit from March and we'll have a great time. I was thinking about pulling out my camoflauge hunting winter hunting jump suit but it is just so big and bulky. Hopefully I'll be staying in the comfortable casinio most of the time.

BigTruck of www.poolactiontv.com is going to be doing a livestream from there and if you stay home, you should still be able to see some great pool being played, while the players shiver. :D

I live a few hours north of there..... It has been really warm this winter (except today.... 20 below freezing)... no worries, the tables are indoors :)
Also keeps the beer nice and cold! Already got a room and entries paid... cya there Joey!

That's what I've been hoping for Chad. I saw the temperature this morning and said, "What am I getting myself into?" Lol

I have to send in my entry fee today!

Are you playing in both of the men's events? There's also a woman's event. All of them with big added money....

It'll be nice to see Mike Page's poolroom in Fargo as well.

Is there any "special" local cuisine that I should try while I am in North Dakota? When people come to New Orleans, I always suggest local, fresh-boiled seafood and muffalettas (separately of course) . :)

OK, steak is good. How about some pheasant?

A few hours north we have hunted them to near extinction, they are very hard to find and I'm not sure if they are domesticated there (not here).

You may be able to find elk or bison (buffalo) in some restaurants, both are raised for meat around here and perhaps in ND too. If you haven't had elk I would strongly recommend you try it, wonderful stuff.

Dave

I was there for about a year in 1981.....without a doubt the worst weather I've ever seen. And the wind!!!!! OMG!!!! As for cuisine couldn't help you. I just know that there aren't a whole lot of reasons I'd ever go back there!

Hmmmm, the elk sounds GREAT. Thanks for mentioning that.

Played in last year, lucky my parents have a lake place a few miles away in Lateral. Better reserve a room quick with the oil business hopping. By the way, Mikes pool room in Fargo was mentioned. I live in Fargo and you need to stop by it is amazing.

Awwww, that was just one bad trip. You're good for one more. Pull yourself away from that warm fire and come on up and over.

If I don't visit Mike, he swears he's going to tattoo a whole bunch of nonsense on my forehead.

I am going to put their contact info in my cell phone right now. I most likely won't be carrying a computer with me this trip but will stay in touch via this thread or PM. Thanks for the generous invite. Hope to meet you at the tournament for sure.

OK, I have a question about how to dress.

What about clothing for getting around from airport to casino? I don't plan any outdoor activities as I most likely won't have a lot of free time.
However, I don't want to be freezing my butt off. I can take the cold pretty good or at least I used to be able to. I've spent many hours and many days, sitting in the cold winter woods of Mississippi waiting for a white tail buck to sashay by. I just don't want to under-dress for warmth and don't want to look like a total noob dressing for the next ice age.

I plan to travel to Fargo, the airport and to the Casino and maybe one side trip somewhere local but that's it. No ice fishing or hunting for JoeyA, at least not this trip.

Easiest winter I can remember. No snow in Fargo. Has been in 40's and 50's this January. Could change though. We did get snow last year during 4bears. If this keeps up we will be in shorts by then.

Talked to Mike last night and let him know there is talk on here about the tourney. They are trying to get something going in Fargo for people traveling through to New Town

By mid april the weather can start to warm up so it should not be to bad. Never know we could get hit with a winter storm. The casino is still an hour drive from Minot and when you get to the casino there is nowhere to really go. Its out in no mans land. But the lake is beautiful. From Fargo to the casino is about a 5 and a half hour drive.

warm clothes

I live in Minot and recommend warm clothes for the drive if nothing else. Remember it can be 50 miles between cities and I always travel with a charged cell phone and warm clothes for emergencies. Slippery roads, mechanical difficulties, and poor drivers call for planning ahead.
