I feel I have many of my machines dust-proof but there is still some operations which I react to.
Therefor -I bought a Trend Airshield-some-thing which was useless. Way to heavy and noisy. If you have the neck that Mike Tyson-you might find it ok...

Now-I have considered the pro 3M setup mentioned. The unit is on your belt and the hood should be much lighter-I guess. It would do me good when I experiment with clear as well.

These things is not free of charge so before I make my decission I thought I could hear with my fellow woodturners if any one has tried these?
Good? Bad ? Heavy?

I bought a small respirator from Woodcraft similar to what you are reffering to where the battery pack is on your belt or in your pocket. It has two speeds and neither is strong enough for me as when I tried using it for more than a minute or so I would get short of breath. I tried it maybe three times before tossing it aside. I bought this one that I use for spraying urethane and although being a little expensive for a dust mask it works wonderfully and is a pleasure to use. I wish I had bought it years before and I would gladly pay 5 times this amount now that I know how well it works:

Thanks for your feedback Dick, it sounds like we both are not willing to put our health at risk.

The one I have now is this thing :
http://www.amazon.com/AIR-PRO-Airshield-Faceshield-Protector/dp/B002Q0Y5IU
Horrible to use, get head ace due to the band holding it and it's pretty darn heavy. Got the optional ear protectors which seems to directly mount the motors vibrations and noise straight to the ears - which causes more noise. For any one - DON'T BUY THIS..

You have checked a similar system to what I'm looking at now - however I think there is most likely some difference in quality - I at least hope.
What I have been able to read up on is that the 3M solution is what's used in the industry and has a air flow alarm control system which should be calibrated and stuff. Sounds all good - and you can choose head covers which is not sucked to your face but more like a light cover (or potentially a helmet). The air suppose to come over your head and flow over your face which is behind the shield (head cover). I use glasses and they could be worn without any problems. In your end I think this link should work :

or
http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/...1&loc=en_US&plmlblid=1273684239254&rt=c3&No=0

Now - the reason for checking with my friends up here : this system quickly runs in the $1K range and is a major investment for me. Money could be used on more tools but then I prefer to put my health in front. However if I end up buying another "Mike Tyson" setup I for sure feel :(

My brother in law bought a old car painter shops compressed air system including a "fresh" air system (he don't have a mask or any thing - just the screw compressor) but this is a old system. Hooking up a mask to this setup is no option for me - the setup is most likely full of mold, rust and things which is not good for us.

So either it's your system which limits my reach due to the hose connected to the pump or the free running rip off 3M system.
On your system - do you clean the machine often for these things (not just the filters) ? I guess the setup requires some filtration on the line or is it all fresh to go from the machine ?

Thanks for your response.
