How much would the game change if your opponent had the option to make you shoot again on any foul.

Would the game be harder for the lesser skilled players?
Im thinking the player that moves better would have the advantage but im not really sure.

It would definitely shut down some of the classic one pocket moves where an intentional foul is the best play.

if they fouls again do you get ball in hand??
like in the push out 9 ball in the old days
just askin
because the intentional fouls as mentioned before is a "move" that shouldnt be tampered with
imho

Interesting idea but there is already a penalty for committing a foul. I don't really see why you would need to add another on top of it.

If you really want to change the rules around maybe the player that committed the foul, if put back in by his opponent, does not need to spot a ball.

I don't see the point. In one pocket a bad CB position for you is probably a much better one for your opponent.

Interesting idea, but would the 3 foul rule still be in affect (loss of game)?

Maybe better yet, what if there are no intentional fouls allowed? So if you make a good safety & put your opponent in a trap behind his balls by his pocket, he would at least have to make a legal hit to get out of it so you get rewarded for a good shot.

Why would anyone want to change the rules of one pocket?? The game is perfect the way it is.
Maybe there should be 4 outs in baseball too

This would be unrealistic: who's to decide whether a foul was intentional? All so-called judgement rules do is cause trouble (including confuse referees and spectators), and make hustlers practice intentional fouls so they don't look as if they were.

Also, same as in Straight Pool, an intentional foul in One Pocket is by no means exclusively the reply to one's opponents "good safety" or "good shot" for which he or she would need to be rewarded. I wouldn't even bet it's statistically at the top of the list. There are countless reasons to foul intentionally, two more of the most popular (= a reaction to one's opponent's effort is no doubt one among several) include running out of position while attempting to run out, and opponent got lucky either missing a shot or messing up a move/safety attempt (= happens more often than one might think - no reason to "award" that), as well as, quite simply, because it's the best percentage play (= intentional fouls are best used by smart people).

Greetings from Switzerland, David.

i concur

yep u said it sounds like somebody doesnt know how to MOVE which is what one pocket is MOVES like chess. ever notice what happens to that super agressive player truying to force out in one pocket? he gets beat by a better mover sometimes its not all about pocketing balls. and also when playing one pocket we are not lucksters we damn well meant to kiss off a ball go 2 or 3rails nd freeze up to another ball. changing the foul would mess up chances u have o get out of a trap if u r stuck. for example u just mde a legal shot but u missed and im behind the stack and all i can do is kick at a ball hangin in my pocket if i try to go one or rwo rails and roll up short u are rewarded by being faced at ur pocket w sveral shots. i could go on n on here but im satisfied w way onepocket is.

It would alter the game and make it much harder for the lessr skilled players.

If I banked better than my opponent and I was in a trap, I would take a foul and shoot out for a bank. Same thing for long shots off the rail if I was better at long shots.

It would turn into shootout one pocket, kind of like we used to play 9 ball.

I wouldn't want to change the rules of the game I just got to wondering about it.
Lets say you kept all the rules the same accept for this.
When a player fouls the other player has the option to shoot or pass it back.If he chooses to pass it back it cost you a ball.
It would very interesting to watch great players of the game to play this way.

Well boys your question is at best...pure supposition...It is like asking if Marilyn Monroe would have been "sexier" with three breasts instead of two. The two breast model was just "fine" with me.

I wouldn't complain if she had three .;)
