If it's anything like my current or past teams:
The captain trying to put his entire brainpower in figuring out who to play against each opponent.
Beer/drinks being drank.
Fun, laughing.
People trying to play and compete.
Coulda, shoulda and woulda are almost always in attendance.
Once in a while you'll encounter "that team", the one that doesn't have fun unless they're winning, but are usually a pain to be around either way.

Have fun, play your game. Getting nervous about 'league' usually messes with people at the beginning, so they don't do as well as they normally would otherwise. Did I mention.. have fun and play your game? I play APA because I enjoy playing, the people and getting out to places I normally wouldn't go.

Of course, people will occasionally mention "sandbagging". Usually because they get their butts handed to them by a person having a really good night. You'll probably never hear anybody complain about somebody not playing up to their skill level.

just remember that this is only for fun.....don't get too tensed up and just play lose and merely for the fun of it.....hopefully you are not with a team that calculates exactly what level each member of the team needs to be (and how to achieve it) to go to vegas....but i digress.....just have fun
You can expect a bastardized version of pool with a league that is 75 percent bangers and thinks the APA is the end all be all of pool.
League is good for one thing... a night out with friends...

What to expect? Beer, lots of beer, after the first few games, you can expect conversations about many things other than pool, likely some girl drama, a few flirts (one way or the other), someone ultra serious about their equipment and their game but not that good, many excuses about why, oh, and don't let "that guy" get under you skin - believe me he will try, and then more beer.

YES! FOR GODS SAKE YES! Good safety tip, you could be flogged or beheaded or something awful like that
Keep an eye out for that guy that can barely hold the cue and claims to have played a pro for money and won. He is usually the first one to thump a rule book in your face when he doesn't understand why he has to get the cue ball to another rail when the object ball is frozen.

Hook electrodes to your nipples and have your teammates shock you if you get down to shoot without marking the pocket.

You'll meet a lot of very nice people and a few asssss holes, about the same percentage as anywhere else.
Play every game to win ........ no exceptions... always. If your SL goes up you'll just have to play better.
Defensive wins as many games as offense.
Learn the rules. There are some funny ones.
Learn how to keep score and take your turn at keeping it.
Teams need 2's and 3's. Don't get discouraged. It took me 30 years and a million shots before I could play well.
Remember.... someone loses every match.
Don't have sex with anyone on your team. Don't have sex with anyone's wife on your team. If you're gay, then twist it around to fit the situation. Other teams are fair game.
Beer makes you shoot pool better. I drink before every match. I leave the table to get another beer during the match. It drives your opponent crazy, especially if they are losing. I am a SL6 and I win 67% of my matches.

Your teammates are allowed to remind you and it doesn't count as a "coach". So you know... hopefully your teammates are team players.
Maybe I can help. A safety is a legal shot attempted for defensive purposes. Intentional fouls (picking up the cue ball and handing it to your opponent, directly pocketing an opponent's ball in 8-Ball, directly pocketing the cheese in 9-Ball when it's hanging in the pocket and you can't see your object ball, etc.) are not considered safeties, but are defensive plays.
