Give us your ideas about adds that could
actually work that would put pool in better
light with the general public and might
work for the sponsors also.

Here is mine.

Two sponsors get together. One from
the billiard industry and the other with
a national presence.

They produce an advertisement that goes
something like this:

Two average guys playing pool, dressed
clean, playing pool in a clean average garage,
as each guy gets to the table they begin to sweat,
the games goes by faster and faster as each player
wipes sweat from his face. Mostly just pocketing
balls but maybe throw in a trick shot or two.

Finally, the last ball is pocketed. Both guys smile,
shake hands and demonstrate friendship. The loser
acknowledges he owes the winner a dinner at
Shoneys or a 12 pack of Coke or a car wash using
Mothers car products. Whatever.

All of these images take pool out of the smokey, dark
dungeons and put it in a mainstream light while
demonstrating that not all pool/gambling leads to
the devils doorstep.

Maybe your idea will be the next to be on national TV !

Although this is never going to happen, the industry needs to employ a public relations firm to promote pool every way they can. Have pool tables show up in commercials, back drops of sitcom's and so on. Imagine what a positive image pool would have gotten if the Cosby show had a pool table in their living room and you saw them playing regularly. It is called "Product placement". It is usually subliminal but works. People would watch Cosby and find themselves taking the kids out to play pool or buying a table. The public is not hard to manipulate.
