Northeast Challenge... Who's there?

Some very good friends (and a couple of my teammates) are on a team from Maine there. They were trying to add me to their team, due to a last minute drop out, but I couldn't swing the time off. I would've loved to go.
They are in the losers bracket, still in though, playing again at 8am tomorrow. 1-1 today.
Oh my god....
Just lost the round because of an incredibly bad call by one of the refs....
We called for a ref to watch a hit and the player hit the shot anyway before the ref got to the table. The ref determined it unsportsmanship conduct but let play continue anyway. He went off of the description of the team that made the bad conduct in determining whether the hit was bad or not and following the bad call the next shot was the 8ball which they sunk.
Also, this was during the sudden death rack.
So all in all my region had 3 teams in the tournament and 10 players had their handicaps raised with at least half of those people having less than 30% win averages and losing at least 1 out of 3 matches during the tournament. The people running the tournament wouldn't let our regional director have any say in the handicap reviews either.
I have no idea why this was allowed and while I know there isn't anyway to combat it there has to be something done because it's unfair on multiple fronts.
