Preserving signature on shaft

My son got his jump cue signed, and the marker is wearing off a bit from the shaft being in the case.

Is something like clear nailpolish ok to brush over the signature to keep it from spreading? Or will the nailpolish take off the marker and I need to get a clearcoat spray?

Try some hairspray, lightly. Don't spray it so heavy that it runs.

Nail polish will act as a solvent and smear it.
