I've heard from a friend that Amsterdam Billiards in NY is selling cues. I presume everything is production so...
Does anyone one know what kind of brands do they have?
I am in fact looking to buy some shafts, and I'll take a trip to NY on Friday...

Thanks in advance,
Chris

I have absolutely no way of knowing, but if it is true, I would guess they are wanting to replace/replenish their stock of house cues.

Blatt Billiards is about a block away. If you don't find a cue you like at Amsterdam, you will probably find something at Blatt.

Ha,ha! I took a clinic there last month and I never saw such a mess of house cues. Buzzing hits, badly shaped or missing tips, and half of them were crooked as a dog's hind leg. I've played in bars my whole life, so I know a shitty house cue when I see one. I guess I expected better at such an illustrious room.

I decided it was time to buy my first two-piece cue, so I asked about the small collection of cues they had for sale. I forget what brands they had, but the guy showing them to me kept handing me the worst looking pieces of crap and wouldn't even give me advice. He kept saying that any one of them played the same, just some were fancier looking. He actually recommend getting the cheapest cue they had. It just felt horrible in my hands, couldn't imagine actually playing with the thing. The shaft had so much runout in the grain that I wouldn't make a bridge out of it. I was not amused.

I did the clinic with the best house cue I could find and walked out.

If you're going to NYC and are looking at cues, you should check out Society Billiards. They have a good pro shop there headed by Jon Smith. He was just about as friendly and helpful as he could be. Gave me lots of good advice about picking out a cue as well. Unfortunately, we had to rush out before I could make a decision, but I think they had Lucasi as their main brand.

Call Ahead

Call ahead to see if Danny Barouty will be in, as he is one of the house pro's at Amsterdam.
He should be able to show you a better selection than just what is at the counter.
I bought a pretty nice Schon off of him last year for $500 and I love it.
Good luck.

Uuuhhh nice tip buddy. Thanks a lot.

As I said I am not looking for cues as for some shafts mostly...but if you guys mentioned Lucasi I think the next one inline is Players...they come in packs:)))))

Thanks for the nice tips guys.
If there is another place that I might look opened on Weekends let me know. I can order them online but I have some cash to throw and the feel is awsome...hehe.
Thanks everyone.

If you find some players in the room you might be able to ask them . Some of the people play with mezz or 314 cues. but there are a lot of really niced high end cues in this place .. gl

I am sorry Sloppy had that experience. I was there probably 3-6 months ago, my company's headquarters are walking distance from the place. I went there during my lunchtime and shot for awhile.
I did not have my cues so I played off the wall. The one thing I remember and that impressed me is that every house cue I picked up was in excellent condition and well maintained. All Dufferins and they all rolled straight and had good tips. The place is one of the nicest pool rooms I have ever been to.

They have predator cues, and I think joss. Not sure if they sell just shafts... Very nice pool hall to play at while your in nyc

Review

So I was in Amsterdam today. Nice place as always. It was a "Ginky" Sansouci memorial tourney... a lot of good people.
Now for the cues:

phade: There are no Predator or Joss cues according to the guy from front desk.
They have the usual Players and Lucasi cues, only.

Sloppy: I don't know where have you been buddy, but was not Amsterdam.
Their cues (10-11 tested today) are in a great shape and the tips are very close to medium-soft, not the crappy rock tips I used with. I found 3-4 warped (playable tho) bar cues from ~11 tested...
Maybe they changed the cues after your post and that will be a very nice thing...but I think not.

Eventually, you can find some nice predator's if you find Tony R.

That's pretty much it...disappointed somehow...

PS: Didn't find mr. Barouty...he probably was, but I missed him...unfortunately.
