Watching Streaming Video On TV Wirelessly

For a while now I had been connecting my lapcrap to my TV to watch streaming videos of pool tournaments.

I recently got a Roku and this thing works great. Over the weekend I watched the Johnny Archer event and it was perfect!

If anyone is looking for an easy way to stream content to their TV I suggest investigating the Roku. Within Roku I use the UStream or Youtube or Plexx channels the most. Works great.

Anybody have suggestions for streaming video to the TV?
 
I've been using a Boxee Box for over a year .... works great for streaming from UStream or the like. Much more convient than hooking a laptop up and has lots of other useful features... connect external drives with download content is what I use it for most.

How are you watching Youtube with your Roku? I didn't think Roku supported Youtube.

I have tried using my Roku to watch ustream streaming of pool in the past and have found it unwatchable. I watched the Johnny Archer event on my computer and the quality was outstanding.

I use the Plexx channel in Roku.

Then I added the various channels to Plexx.

Plexx has 2 parts: Plexx Media Server and Plexx Media Center

Setting up the server allow me to have access to all the media on my computer to include any movies, music and so forth.

Plexx Media Center is where you control this media such as where you keep your movies and music.

I have a newer laptop with an Intel i5 processor. The laptops (certain brands) that use the i3, i5 and i7 processors come with Intel WiDi which can stream to your tv using Push2TV.

It streams it in hd and usually looks better on your tv than your laptop.
 
One nice feature of Plexx is that if you have a collection of movies as I do, and you name each movie correctly, Plexx will add cover art to each movie icon. Where it doesn't work is if the video, such as the pool tournaments don't have cover art available or you name the movie incorrectly, which I did.

When I noticed that there was no cover art, I checked the movie in question, corrected the spelling and the cover art was found and assigned to the movie. Very nice feature.

Anyway using Roku is a nice, easy way to wirelessly stream video or pictures/images or music to your TV and the quality is excellent.
 
hmmmm..... have to check if the boxes support VPN so I can use them in China. No YouTube or Ustream here except through a VPN.
