Made in USA: SHANE VAN BOENING, 2012 U.S. OPEN 9-BALL CHAMPION

I know what you mean, Naji. It sure does feel good to wake up as an American this morning and feel proud, thanks to Shane Van Boening! :smiling-heart:

Agree, truthfully not only for being American, he showed everyone how to play real pool, what a supremacy of the game he has, unreal. I am sure Dennis's ass still numb!!!!

I'm just happy to see an American do well in pool. It is a little disheartening to read posts written by American pool purists who continue to put down the American players, always praising the Europeans and Asians. I find their posts disgusting and offensive, and I have to hold back my fingers before they spew venom that I might regret later.

You find impartiality 'disgusting' and 'offensive'? Lordy, missus.

Like Keith says after a defeat, "It will only hurt a little bit." :grin-square:

That's funny! Alex would say something witty like that.

Hey, not that I care, but it's PHILIPPINES (one "l" and two "p's") and FILIPINO with an "f" and not a "p," but one "l" and one "p" within. Believe it or not, somebody on this forum corrected the error of my spelling ways years ago, and I appreciated it, as I had been spelling it wrong. :embarrassed2:

Thanks JAM. I honestly did not know the correct spelling, so I trusted this darn iPad. Like usual it let me down! I really try to avoid sounding dumb, but I guess I have to be me!

!! Congrats to SVB !!

!! Congrats to SVB !!

Well done, and well deserved!

Congrats to SVB!

Excellent performance and deserved to win !!:)

Although I must admit that to this level 9ball is more or less a racking contest...Propably something has to be done ( different racking? rules?)
9 ball is like that... I know I know, but still..

Congrats again to a great player !

Seeing as how there's only been one pinoy who's ever won the open, didn't that put Shane on the easy side of the draw?:wink:

Correction, Efren and Alex P have both won the US Open 9 ball. And fwiw both Orcollo and Lee Van have won the US Open 10 ball

I'm glad he won as i am an American, however his draw compared to everyone else that finished in a top spot was insanely easy. I am not a fan of the seeding at all. Two top 20 players battling it out in rounds one and two are what makes these big events special. Seeding IMO makes it to where the record books should start over this year and continue on. All of the previous titles are different and IMO more difficult for the better players.

I'm not sure I understand why you believe Shane had an easy draw. From what I can see on the charts, he played:

Adam Smith
Nick van den Berg
Chris Melling
Ronnie Alcano
Jose Parica
Alex Pagulayan
Dennis Orcullo

If you think that's easy, I'd had to see what you'd consider hard!

Multiple U.S. Open 9-Ball Champions

Mike Sigel (3): 1976, 1980, 1983
Allen Hopkins (2): 1977, 1981
Nick Varner (2): 1989, 1990
David Howard (2): 1982, 1986
Buddy Hall (2): 1991, 1998
Mika Immonen (2): 2008, 2009
Darren Appleton (2): 2010, 2011
Shane Van Boening (2): 2007, 2012

I couldn't be happier that Shane took down the title. Nice win for the USA! He played like the champion that he is. I wish we had 10 more like him.

Hah, I agree. Majority of that list had a good chance to grab the title.

The South Dakota Kid

Shane is a champion in more ways than one.

BTW, I owe Shane a burger. I bet a couple of guys that Shane would win the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship this year and won $60. They took Orcullo and I took Shane.

Shane BAD TO THE BONE Van Boening.

The South Dakota Kid!
The gamblers had it right all along.....
....NEVER gamble with somebody named after a State...

Canada is proud to call Alex a Canadian....
..and Jose Parica has been living in the USA for a long time...
..I wonder if he is an American citizen.

Adam Smith, young up and coming champion.

Nick Van den Berg is a European 9 Ball CHAMPION and a DUTCH 9 BALL CHAMPION.

It wasn't more than a couple of weeks ago and some were saying that Ronnie Alcano was the best 9 Baller in the world.

They've been saying that Dennis Orcullo is the Money King and virtually unbeatable.

Alex the Lion Hearted is feared wherever he goes.

Jose Parica is a legend from the winner's circle of tournaments all over the world.

Chris Melling is nothing short of being a folk hero in his country.

What the hell does that make Shane Van Boening?:dance::dance:

Start at the 1st round and compare, like I said Jam

Because Shane was seeded, you don't think he has to punch his way out of a trick bag? Those players he competed against are tough as nails. He didn't have to win any of those matches, but he did, and he did so consistently throughout the week. Just because he got a bye doesn't make his championship win any less. He played world beaters and got to the finish line.

Why would anyone want to see players like svb and alcano being knocked out with a, for instance, svb vs orcullo random first round seeding? That would do nothing for the fans. Congrats to svb! Even if I was rooting for the magician.
