Question on signing your work

I have only made 1 cue so far, I am keeping it, but am currently making a second cue for a friend of mine, and he wants me to sign my name, or some kind of "gimmicky" half-name on the cue. I am not sure what to use to sign on it with. The first cue was finished by around 15-20 layers of sanding sealer and then automotive clear sprayed over the top of that. So I guess my question is, What do I sign the cue with, and when do I sign it, before the sanding sealer, between the sanding sealer and the top-coat, or when? Thank You.

Before you spray your 2nd cue you might want to read the directions/specifications on your automotive clear coat. Some manufacturers recommend NOT using sanding sealer under urethanes. PPG is one example.

To your question though, sign after the wood is sealed then spray the auto clear over the signature. Fog the signature lightly first, let the clear flash, then proceed with your top coats.
