Personally, I like the Mosconi cup as it is, but hypothetically, if the UK alone had to put out a team against the USA, how would it go?

Who would you choose for each team?
Who would you make favourites?

USA- SVB, Johnny Archer, Mike Dechaine, Dennis Hatch, Rodney Morris
UK- Darren Appleton, Chris Melling, Raj Hundal, Jayson Shaw, Daryl Peach

The population of the USA is slightly over 300 million, while the population of Europe as a whole is over 700 million. Which means Europe has more of a talent pool to choose from for the Mosconi Cup. But with that said, the UK team I posted has a good chance of beating team USA if you ask me.

Western Europe has around 400m, so the population disparity isn't that great. The real difference is in number of players, where the USA outnumbers us by at least 1000:1. Even so, I'd say a UK team is favourite against America. Furthermore, our top players play snooker and the vast majority of cueists generally are English pool players. I'd say there are around 300 serious American pool players in the UK.

Hundal feels his loyalties lie elsewhere, but Boyes, Gray, Majid, Burford and several others are all able to replace him.

I think it should happen. It's time.

Europe's population is 739,000,000. Where are you getting your facts from?

That's the population of the whole of Europe, including Eastern Europe, TheThaiger was only talking about Western Europe, the population's estimated at a little over 410,000,000.

Yeah the real teller is in the numbers of active players. TheThaiger's estimate of 300 serious American pool players in the UK seems about right to me, too. Even with that number, I like a UK team's chances against a US team, although it would be close.
