Important One Pocket Rule Dispute

I think the best thing to do in a serious game is to carry a string with you.

Also, the one real good player that I have gambled with always asked if we were playing base of ball or not before we started playing!

Please be careful when mixing the keyboard and alcohol.

"This tends to overlap with In Vino Veritas: Often the character committing the act of Alcohol-Induced Idiocy will be an otherwise sensible and reasonably intelligent person when sober. If the character is normally dimwitted, getting drunk will make him even dumber. In both cases, the character's inebriation usually results in him being a danger to himself and others. " *

You fail to mention that I was sharked on the same shot. You won't address that issue, but you are quick to put me in a negative light any way you can.

what ball would you want spotted? If you cant make the 9ball off the spot and it bothers you that he picked that ball you either need to practice so you can make any ball off the spot or just quit because if that "sharked" you then you will never be able to make it all the way through a game without something causing you to lose.

Petro,

You and I are not on the same page. I never went on to say that the 9-ball bothered me. In fact I had even reported that I had made the shot. You are lecturing me when I would allow you to hang from the light while I was shooting if you think it would do you any good.

The base of the ball is and always has been the line of the ball.

When you spot the ace in a rack, what part of the ball has to be on the spot? 5%? No, the center.

If you play any game where you spot a ball, you ALWAYS spot it on center, not on the edge of the ball.

Sorry OP, you were wrong and every pool player in every hall will tell you so.

I would use this logic, if a ball is in the jaws of a pocket and is hanging over the edge is it pocketed? No, it would need to drop in the pocket. How does it drop in the pocket? By the force of gravity because of where the base of the ball is. Therefore the base of te ball should be the ruling, even though there is less argument if you use a rule that uses, all in, all out, or part of the ball in or out.

Secondly, I have never had so many ridiculous scenarios come up in my life of pool as Chris. Do you just think up these things as you sleep?

IMO FWIW,

Tournament rules; it is 'base of the ball' to determine if it is playable.
Remember, in a tournament, just about everything is determined for you. All you have to decide is if you want to pay the entry fee.

Gambling; Whatever the two players agree upon. As so many wise players have stated, discuss and agree upon the rules before you start playing. Everything you want is decided between you and your opponent.

Not at all. This is a direct reporting of a situation that happened to me just an hour or so before I posted it.

As mentioned before, I would have shot the ball on the spot even if allowed to shoot the ball on the line. Also, you make no mention of the fact that I was sharked by having the 9-ball intentionally spotted because it was thought to be the ball I would have the most trouble with.

And I am not too appreciative of the red rep given by you for no reason.

If this doesnt bother you and it really shouldnt why did u mention it a few times you should have said he spotted a ball and I made it. You seem to make a big deal about it

I've always thought the center of the ball was it's position on the cloth. Carry a $5 laser pen & that position can be verified easily, unless it's very close & the call would be inside the Kitchen.

Good Luck

It is base of the ball. Always has been in every pool game. The line does not extend vertically from the bed of the table. The base of the ball is the only part that can be in contact with, over or behind the line. It is the same as the ball being in the pocket. It is not in the pocket until the base of the ball goes past the pocket lip. It doesn't matter how much of the ball is hanging over the pocket. It is not in until the base of the ball crosses the line.

Petro never said the nine ball bothered you. He said IF the nine ball bothered you...:)

I can tell what he was implying. You don't need to make minor grammatical arguments with me.

What I implied was that you made a big deal about the other player sharking you so it must have bothered you and I said you need to practice more so that wont bother you, my opponent can spot any ball even a beach ball and it doesnt bother me Im going to make it and that I wont let little things like this bother me beacuse I can miss shots on my own I dont need help

Important 5 Ball Rules Dispute

You are playing 5 ball caroms on a 3.5 by 9 foot table (standard ABP rules of course). During the 3rd inning, with the score tied 27-27, you shoot at the smaller ball, which bounces off the biggest ball, off the table, off your opponentast's wifes left breast, back onto the table, and makes the 6 rail carom.

Would you keep shooting? Maybe mark the point but surrender the inning? Measure the breast with a ruler to determine if it is phenolic?

Damn it people, these questions need answering! This of course did not happen to me, but I assure you, the source that gave me this situation had it happen to him 27 minutes and 24 seconds ago.

I don't understand your humor. My topic came directly from an experience during a game.

And you don't need to bring a pool hall to a screeching halt, getting others involved to try to get them to agree to your BS rule that you claim you had no intention of taking yet you did which in my honest opinion is the biggest douche move I've heard of from you so far.
