Best shaft,ferrule,tip for breaking

I have an older playing cue that I'd like to turn into a breaker. What shaft/ferrule/tip would be best?

Through the years I have settled on whats good for me. I stay away from phenolic tips, I dont seem to get good cue ball control on the break. I, like others, prefer a full 13mm shaft for breaking. That being said, Samsara, White Diamond, and Ultra Skin H tips are great IMO. But hey, a one piece phenolic may work well for you! Trial and error will take some time, so I say keep the shaft if nothing but for testing possibilities.

I don't know if this is a concern to the OP, but aren't phenolic/G10 tips still illegal for breaking according to BCA rules, or has that rule changed? If no one knows off hand I'll look it up later.

Why would it matter what BCA rules are? They do not rule the pool world.

Cue ball business has been good!

yes the rule was changed sometime in 2012.

Some people don't even use a break cue. SVB breaks with his playing cue a lot. He is playing with a Kamui Brown Medium tip now I do believe.

I like the Odega break tip myself

It would matter because some people play in BCA sanctioned leagues and tournaments. If the OP is one of those people, it very much will matter to him... unless he doesn't care about playing by league/tournament rules.

Thanks. I just spoke with a BCA league operator over the weekend and he was under the impression you still could not break with phenolic/G10. I'll look up the current rule, but if you have it, or it's location in the rule book, I'd appreciate it.

FYI: I'm interested because a friend was considering a jump/break stick purchase at a tournament over the weekend and his plan was to buy a second shaft with a hard leather tip for breaking in BCA sanctioned events if need be. I'd be happy to be the one to inform he he no longer needs to concern himself with that. :-)
