Still doing some cleaning and decided to part with more western curly maple. Here is a batch of 5 Curly maple squares 2 are 1.5" square x 18" 3 are 1.5 square and 19" long. Very nicely figured. These have only been planed, not wetted with any liquid to show the figure.
SOLD for all 5 shipped to the lower 48 states.
First to respond here gets them. No PMs please.

How about end grain images? Count the rings please.

Ummm . . . . ring count? As in GPI (Growth Rings per Inch)?

That's not normally a parameter of concern in forearm and/or handle wood.

But maybe I'm missing something.

????

The five pieces are each approx. 15 GPI. I personally, core all my curly, no matter what the gpi is as the very nature of curly is a grain that is compressed in different directions, so I don't take a chance of any movement, etc. Just my take on it. With coring, you get to select the GPI of the dowel...:wink:

The five pieces are each approx. 15 GPI. I personally, core all my curly, no matter what the gpi is as the very nature of curly is a grain that is compressed in different directions, so I don't take a chance of any movement, etc. Just my take on it. With coring, you get to select the GPI of the dowel...:wink:

I agree wholeheartedly. I usually core everything but I would never consider using curly without coring with purple heart. In fact, curly is the reason that I started to core cues many years ago.

If it's important in a shaft it's important for a handle or a forearm.
Atleast when you are talking maple. Just my opinion.
I bought one of Dave's first batches and coudln't be happier.
