Someone tell me the distance from the center spot on the break line to the outside spots left and right of center on a 5 by 10 carom table. I heard it's not 6 inches any more. 7 and ? Thank you.

Dennis,

It was changed from 6 inches at least 15 years ago. The official distance is now 18.5 cm, or approx 7 1/4 inches. An easy way to get very close is use three ball widths.

A friend told me that you don't actually have to break from the spot; you have the option of putting your cueball anywhere between the spot and your opponents cueball.

I've never seen anyone do this. Is he right?

Thanks alot for the info ...15 years ago ? News travels slow in my circle. I looked all over for it on the internet. No good So thanks again. Never heard of putting the ball anywhere but on the spots. Could have been a just for the heck of it thing.

The correct cm measurement is 18.25 (not 18.5), which is 7.1850 inches (or, as noted in the post by Jim Shovak, 7 3/16 inches).

Go to www.usba.net for the rules and measurements. (Under the Play tab to the Rules of the Game tab, it is rule 4.(b)).

Thank you. I was too lazy to look it up, and obviously my memory isn't what it used to be.
