if a customer requested very specific specs

Absolutely love this cue.

But wasn't sure of "everything" that you might ask for, would you just prefer them to send you a butt they already had?

I'm going to have a pretty big cue made sometime this year and want the butt to have as identical as possible specs to the butt of my Josey that I've gotten so used to.

If a customer asked for a specific handle dimension, joint size, weight, balance... Would providing those specifics be enough, or would you want the butt just for good measure?

I don't really want to part with the butt for a while but if I would be less of a pain, I would do it.

If you want it "Just Like My Josey", then why bother spending the time and money on a "custom" cue? More/better bling on the exterior of the cue? (Points, inlays, etc). That won't help you play better.

You might think about playing with a number of different maker's cues to see which, if any, you like better than your current cue. There are a couple of ways to do that. 1) Go to one of the billiards expos/shows where custom cuemakers gather to show off their newest creations. There's usually a table nearby where you can try a few different cues. Or start buying used cues in the Wanted/For Sale forum and trying those out. If you buy a cue you don't like, then turn around and sell it. You might not be able to sell it for the purchase price, but you got to try it out for a small fee.

Once you find a cuemaker that you like, approach them about your own cue.

Honestly, just wondering what you hope to achieve.

More bling but same specs...

I don't understand the confusion honestly.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with my Josey but Keith Josey doesn't offer what I'm looking for.

I am going to have Keith Hanssen build a cue with a substantially larger than average amount of points, but I would like the butt to have the same weight/balance/size I'm used to from my daily player if that's at all possible.

I'm aware if I were using a standard shaft that it would still play very different but I don't plan on switching from an OB2 shaft any time soon. If ever.

I just want to know if I'm being a huge pain in the ass asking for specific size/balance/weight. I believe I see people do this often, I was only wondering if it would be easier for a cuemaker to actually be able to do their own measuring on the butt or what.

.

Have you contacted Keith directly and asked him if he can make what you want? If you are going only on what you have seen of his cues that are being offered, and haven't asked him personnally, you may shorting yourself, especially seeing that you seem to really like the playability of his cues. Call him and talk, you may find your dream may come true.

Hope you achieve success in your quest.

Some guys will attempt to build anything you want and some won't. You need to contact the builders your interested in and see what they will do.

Get a caliper and we can guide you through it buddy! You know Hanssen will figure something out for you, just like your sneaky! Thought to be honest I wouldn't worry to much about dimension of the butt. Just learn to play with the new cue. Takes 2-3 weeks to adjust to a new cue/shaft, then your good to go!!!

best,

Justin
