Schon Shaft change to LD shaft

I have a schon cue, and I am thinking about changing shafts for a smaller diameter shaft. I have been looking at the Z2 shafts but have also heard good things about the Ob shafts, does anyone have any pros cons of each? If I get the Z2 im going to order the one with the schon joint.

I have some Schon Cues, a variety of Schon Shafts, and have tried most of the predator and OB shafts on Schons, For my taste, I prefer the OB2 shaft at 11.75mm with an Onyx tip, and my backup shaft is a Schon IV at 12.75mm, currently sporting a Sniper tip.

It's whatever feels good pard.

Me my self like the ob classic but if u like smaller mm go with classic pro! Ob too me has much better ffeeling hit more crisp firm hit a lot more feed back go with the ob its a lot better too me! And its made in usa and the guys at ob are great!

the only problem with go with what feels good, is that around here none of the cue shops carry ob products. They barely carry any predator products, and they dont even have a single z2 that will fit my schon. Shame they are still in business.

While I prefer OB shafts, to be fair, Predator shafts are made in the USA as well,,,,,,,,,,can't say that for their Cue Butts necesarily, but the shafts still are.

I've owned nearly all LD shafts for Schon. My .02.

I feel I can speak to this, as I've owned several Schons and all Predator and OBs available for it. In order of my own preference; 1 being the best.

  1. OB Classic Pro 11.75MM with Kamui Black SS
  2. Predator Z2 11.75MM with Kamui Black SS
  3. OB Classic 12.3MM with Kamui Black Soft
  4. OB2 11.75MM with Kamui Black Medium
  5. OB1 with Kamui Black Black Medium
  6. Predator 314-2 12.5MM with Kamui Black Medium

From the above, you can see that I prefer smaller diameters. 11.75MM to 12.3 MM. They are based on feel/feedback and consistency when I play with them.

I would like to try the following LD's that have had great reviews:

Bob Danielson - SS360 12.75MM
Jacoby Edge/Hybrid - 12MM
100+ year old growth maple shaft

Thanks,

Taemin

Well my mistake then, I still think ob is better!

So do I,,,,,,,,,also, it's come to my attention that I am completely wrong about my statement that Predator Shafts are made in Florida, and worse they haven't been for several years, and even worse maybe not ever,,,,,well at least not completely anyway.

Apologies for anyone who read it, and I agree with anyone who read it and thought I should have done more homework before making a statement like that,,,,,,,,that's what I get for trusting outdated books (blue ones).

Sorry guys.

Bob from bd Cues can make a Shaft to fit schons and if feel you would love the way they play . I know I love the one he made for me .. And on not big on of shafts but try one of them.ss360 shafts bob makes you will be surprised.

So they are made in china?

OB Classic Pro all the way. Maybe it´s my lack of experience, but I have much more cue ball control (Speed, spin, accuracy) with the Classic Pro.

I played with Z2 for over a year and it´s a great shaft, played with 314'2 a couple of months and it´s a great shaft too. But nothing compares to the Classic Pro. IMHO.

In order of preferences I´d put them this way

OB Classic pro
OB2
Standard maple shaft at 11.25 mm
Predator Z2
OB Classic
Predator Z
Predator 314'2
Predator 314

So they are made in china?

I'm honestly not sure about China specifically, but I have word from a very good source that they are at the least Asian made,,,,,,,,,China is a very good bet I think,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,either way I still prefer OB shafts.

I have a hard time recommending predator shafts.
Too many other good shaft makers out there IMO.
If you go from the standard shaft to a 11.75 ld shaft get ready for a change in your game.

It is not good or bad, you just need to change your game as the CB will come off the tip much differently.

I recently picked up a Z2 for a buddy here and he swore he would like it and he had to have it. Some 3 weeks later and he said he had to put the shaft away until after league gets done and he will play with it over the summer to get used to it.

I am just saying, the Z2 is an extreme change compared to a standard shaft.

Hope this helps or at least makes you think before you pull the trigger on something you may not like 3 weeks from now.

I already shaved my schon shaft down to 12.5 mm and I use to play with a meucci that was a even 12 mm and I loved how it played, thats why im going smaller.

Well I am said to hear what you did to a nice schon shaft :) JK
Hope the 11.75 will be everything you want. Good luck.
I like Jacoby and the OB classic pro better than the predator.
If you really liked the 12.5 then I would highly recommend the mezz wd700.

How long does it take too get used to them I got mine and I mean love it just noticce I get a lot more action with ball been getting my self stuck!

I only did it because I was use to the smaller shaft and wanted it smaller, I just dont want to shave my only schon shaft down to 12 mm. RunEm, it will take a few months to get good control over it. Best thing to do is just slow down and really shoot the ball. It took me about a month to get use to all the action from the 12mm shaft.
