Would this be a foul?

The ball would have to be moving VERY slowly or it would have to be a direct hit that pins the magic rack between the ball and the rail on say a kick or a bank for it to have any effect. Therefore I think the don't sweat the small stuff mentioned above is the correct frame of mind involving it. Neither player cared about such a small likelihood and certainly did not care about it grazing the balls in motion.

Do I think there should be a rule to stop arguments with leaguers? Yes. Because most of them will do anything to win a game as they cannot do it with skill they will stop at nothing to win on a technicality.

Do I think a rule is necessary for people who have common sense and integrity? No. It obviously has no effect on the outcome of a shot and or game whatsoever in %99.99999 of shots involving it.

1.Pool balls move very slowly quite often.
2. There are many pro rules that are there for shots that don't happen 99.9999999% of the time.
3. Not all pros play with common sense and integrity.

Since Magic racks are getting more and more popular I thought it was worth a discussion. You are entitled to think its a moot point though.

During the TAR ten ball, Alex repeatedly set the magic rack on the rail with corners of it protruding over the rail, sometimes a full inch.

Now I'm confident that if the cue ball hit the rack during a shot it would be a foul but what about an object ball that is being shot down the rail?

A ball that would have rattled could get straightened out by the rack and go in clean.
No way, couldn't be a foul. That would be like if a guy
knocks a piece of chalk on the table and no one notices, and the other
guy hitting a shot ends up hitting the chalk,he can't turn around and cry foul.Things happen and both players have to watch. This isn't a shooting foul, its a mistake that can't be considered a foul do to playing.

What if the guy at the table knocks chalk on the table and his cue ball ends up hitting it and alters the path of the cue ball and the incoming player ends up snookered because of it?

What if the guy breaking makes a ball, sets the magic rack on the rail and on his next shot the cue ball slowly rolls towards it and veers off an inch and because of the altered path, his opponent ends up snookered?

Agree with you on all points but I definitely think it's a moot point. No harm in discussing it of course though.

Because there pros who don't worry about Nor want to win with a silly foul like this.

I agree 100% that Alex and Busty would let lots of little things go.

This discussion was for future matches at pro and amateur levels.

I might be wrong but most people say you have to call over a ref
if you think a foul may happen on your opponents next shot.
In fact,if you were to call a foul on Alex,it would have to happen
the moment he layed the magic-rack on the rail improperly.
If Busty shoots after Alex puts it down and doesn't call a foul and
shoots,he can't turn around after a mishap and call a foul on Alex.
To little to late.

It would be a foul in a tournament.Probably not a foul when gambling unless some1 has an issue with it.

Sometimes when no ref is around you just use friendly gambling rules.Kind of like giving up the money ball or conceding games early.

I doubt the mr would deflect the ball though it could but it is technically a foul same as the shooter leaving a chalk cube on the table and having a ball contact it.

JMO.

I see it the same way. If a foul is not called after that inning is completed the foul can no longer be called. Anything that happens after that stands as is. This is the way I see it.

I think it can alter the path on certain shots, and it should be a foul in tournament play. Cueball or object ball makes contact with it, foul.
Gambling, you can play any rules you want. In this case, nobodys gonna call a foul.
It's funny to me because I would think lower caliber players would leave it hanging over the edge, but as a proffessional you would think they would remove it completely. IMO.

At least we see it the same way.I was in a event a couple years ago
and a guy fouled and even had a couple railbirds say they thought it
was a clear foul as well.My opponent still said,he thought it wasn't.

The TD came over to me and said, its up to me to call over a ref if I
think a foul may occur.I tried telling him, thats the problem,I never
thought a foul could occur on that shot but he hit it so bad that
it did occur. At the end,he got to keep shooting and I got the old
reemsicle.

After that I thought their should be a ref at every table for
every game at a big event.Oh well,im over it now.....kinda;)
