Questions regarding the weight of a Cue (Schon)

If you want perfectly well balanced cue, order a player from most any custom cm. It will cost you the same or less than a fancy schon.

If you are set on a schon, the buy from them directly. I'm sure they have plenty of inventory. You will pay more, but get exactly what you want.

Would you change the weight of the Cue to match the weight that the Customer ordered and then change the sticker on it? :grin-square:

I might change the weight of a cue to suit the customer, yes. The sticker is another matter.

I don't know how they decide what sticker to put on. Is it anything between 19 and 19.9 gets a 19 sticker? Is it 18.6 - 19.5? I don't know how they figure it.

Also. if, with no added weight, a production cue weighs 18.5 ounces, the same production cue might well be sold as a 18.5oz, a 19oz, a 19.5 oz and a 20oz, all with just a weight bolt change and a sticker change. I don't know but I presume this is an every day occurrence in the production cue business.

As Joey said, there are cues out there with huge weight bolts right from the factory. There are also cues with very small ones, or none. The manufacturers put it there to achieve whatever weight they (or you) want.

I'm sorry guys but I don't have any experience in Cues or the way they are manufactured. I'm also not a Cue technician/engineer so my knowledge is close to nothing regarding "what" is the proper thing to do and what is not.

I just started this thread so as to understand what is and is not supposed to be done.

So the bottom line from what you guys have replied is this:
When ordering a "production" Cue, one should not expect much and it is pretty much a standard procedure for the retailer or even the Cuemaker to alter the weight of the Cue, depending on what they have in stock, so as to match what the Customer has ordered. If one wants to buy a perfectly balanced Cue, he/she needs to contact a Custom Cuemaker, in order to build a Cue to his/her exact specifications.

I just wish I had my old Cue back :grin-square: :grin-square: :grin-square:

Customers of the custom cue makers are well aware of the best cue makers abilities. Truly custom cues are not about quantity, it is about quality. So there is little need for websites, even come of the most expensive cue makers don't have a site. And if you're wanting to know the reputations of cue makers, go to the cue reviews and for sale section and just look at comments about the different cue makers. Also, when you find one your interested in, use the search function to find out how people view their cues. You can find anything your interested in on this site. There is no topic that hasn't been explored. It just takes some searching to find it.

I'm not a Customer of the Custom Cuemakers so I have no idea what a Custom Cuemaker could do. The most important thing for me is how a Cue plays, rather than how a Cue looks. I prefer the Cue to look like a Schon R6 or like a (Adam) Balabushka GB-1, GB-2, GB-6 but play fantastic, rather than looking like a super fancy Cue with loads and loads and loads of Ivory and fancy things on it and play like... Well, you know

The problem I'm facing is that I'm in Athens/Greece and there aren't a lot of Custom Cuemakers around here. In fact, there is only one guy and he's mostly using domestic woods found throughout Greece (like Olive). I'm also not so sure if a lot of people have bought a Custom Cue from him. The same thing goes with the Custom Cuemakers fro the US. I don't think that a lot of people from Greece have bought a Cue from them, so as to ask them to have a go with it and see how it plays.

I have found a few Custom Cuemakers by googling them (Dzuricky, Jacoby, Black Boar, Phillippi, Pechauer, RC3 and a few others), but then again, how do I know that what they'll create for me, will play the way I'd like it to play? How would they know and how are they going to create something like that?

I tried posting a reply earlier but something was wrong... Anyway...

I'm not a Customer of the Custom Cuemakers so I have no idea of what they're capable off. And it will be very difficult for me to locate such a Customer in Athens/Greece, where I'm located. Also, we don't have a lot of Cuemakers here in Greece; I think we only have one but he's creating his Cues using domestic wood found throughout Greece (like Olive Trees). And I'm also not sure how many Custom Cues he's sold so far or if I'll be able to locate one of his Customers to have a go with one of his Cues.

I mean, how would it be possible for someone to build a Cue that will suit me? And what if the Cue is not what I like? I mean, I'm sure that the Cue will look beautiful, that the Cuemaker will only use A++++ wood and so on, but I'm more interested in how the Cue plays, not how it looks...

Plus, I don't want to spend a fortune on the Cue. I've got no experience so I'll be an easy target to rip off
