Mezz Power Break II - Test Results

I bought a Mezz PB2 off the for sale section on AZB. It was slightly used
($360) but I could not find a good deal on a new one.

I have been in a break slump for awhile. I was spreading the rack well, but no balls going down, which means my oppenent loved me. Even on a not so good spread, he still gets to chose his balls... so i'm still at big disadvange breaking.

Now I don't have a Monster Break.. I'm 5'6" and weight 175 pounds, and just turned 50. But I do have some quickness to give me a good break.

Here are my results with the Mezz PB2 from 10 breaks last night, from the side rail, hitting the head ball full; Also, I did not scratch or come close to scratching on any breaks. Also, I'm breaking on 9 foot Brunswick with 4 5/8 pockets with Simonis cloth. It's my home table, but plays similar to a GC. This is a 15-ball rack !! Breaking from the long rail, second diamond, about a ball and 1/2 width from the rail.

Ok, a 90% avg is pretty friggin spectacular. I'm guessing I was under 50% before with my old break cue. And made a total of 16 balls on 10 break shots. OK, I"m not in SVB territory, but for me this is crazy good.

So, what's the complaint. The spread is not too good. but I'll take that over a great spread and no balls down. It's almost like 5 or 6 balls are moving like crazy around the table, a couple go right into the pocket, and then 5 or 6 balls don't move all that much out of the rack area.

But at least I'm at the table, and I get to chose the color if I can't get out. I"m gonna shoot with my current breaker and track the results to see how close or far away it is to the Mezz. I will also do another round of 10 with the Mezz just to be sure. Will post later.... Thus far, liking it a lot.

Great job and thanks for posting...that's a great spot to break from for 9ball...but try breaking from 1 diamond away from rail, on the line still...for 8, I find it to give a better spread...try and let me know if they all spread better.

If you are getting little spread and some of the ball were in the bottom corner pockets you can blame the wooden rack....

I haven't played with the magic rack for 8ball but the 8ball Accu-Rack template removes all of the gaps and you are forced to make balls up table and in the sides.... With all of the balls touching, the rack comes apart like an explosion......

Could be.... in league they use the cheap plastic racks, but I have not tried the Mezz in league yet....but I"m sure the plastic racks are just a bad :(

OK, Round 2 Results;

Mezz PB2:

Made a ball 8 out of 10 breaks. 80% (vs 90% on round 1)
4 breaks made 1 ball.
4 breaks made 2 balls.
Never made 3 balls. (round 1 made 3 balls once)
Again, no scratches.
Total balls made on 10 breaks (12) - Total in round 1 (16)
Very similar results to test results in round 1.

Current Break Cue:

Made a ball on 50% of my breaks. (10 breaks)
Made 2 balls. No
Made 3 balls. No
2 scratches.

This about sums up my break in league, and pretty much tells me I was right without actually keeping track. My break was hurting me big time due to opponents running out or getting first crack at choosing stripes or solids.

I'm getting convinced, but I'm not done yet.

I want to complete one more round (3) to check the results against round 1 and round 2. Just to make sure :)
