My son made a team that will be traveling to Cooperstown in August to play in the World Series.
We will be staying in Oneonta...... Are their any decent pool rooms within driving distance?

Thanks in advance!

There is a room in Amsterdam just off the highway. Sharp Shooters at 35 main st. Beautiful Diamond tables and a nice owner to boot. I believe it would take you about an hour to get there but I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed.

There is also Golden Cue in Albany which is a great room as well. Some very good players frequent there and they have a pretty good handicapped tourney on Wed nights. This is probably a little more than an hour away for you. They are located at 1048 Central Ave. they have 1 Diamond and a bunch of GC1's that play good.

Hope this helps and good luck.

First off, great job to your son!

Second, I can't recommend a pool room because I never got a chance to scout that area for pool, but my wife and I head to that area every year for our wedding anniversary and two things you have to try in the area.
Actually 4 places now that I think about it because A and B are very close to Cooperstown. Since you are coming from Texas, you NEED to do these things while you are in the area.

A. Visit Ommegang brewery and try the Three Philosophers beer and munch on some stuff in their new restaurant. http://www.ommegang.com/ We have been in that place several times, they were recently bough by a large brewer and expanded so not as "inside info" as they were, but the beer there is amazing. I'd get a sample pack to go, and they brew special beers all the time.

B. For the kids and wife :) visit the Fly Creek Cider Mill, feed ducks, geese, etc... and some great cider products, lots of fun.

1. Peekamoose restaurant, it's a bit of a drive but well worth it. http://www.peekamooserestaurant.com/ , we don't call it a vacation in New York unless we go there twice hehe. Once will leave you wanting more. They get their eggs from chickens outside on the yard and I swear their cattle is killed and butchered in the basement or something their stuff is so fresh and well selected.

2. You should stay at The Roxbury hotel in Roxbury. http://www.theroxburymotel.com/ One of the most relaxing hotels I have been to, if not THE best one. I've stayed in some good hotels and this one is tough to top.

Those things will make your trip more enjoyable probably more than a pool room. Those 4 are some of the top things to visit in a 60 mile radius.

Thank you guys for some great info. I am looking forward to seeing the beautiful landscape in New York.

I am not sure if time will allow me to go check out the pool rooms, but it is nice to know their are some within driving distance.

Hang the 9 - WOW! Thank you for taking the time to enlighten me on the MUST things to do in the area!
I will definitely take the time to check out a few of those (especially the brewery:thumbup:)

Empty Pockets - Brooks BBQ, looks incredible, and I have saved it to my GPS, and I can't wait to try their BBQ!

I am leaning toward flying into NYC.....How is the drive from NYC? Or would you fly into Syracuse? Albany?

Thanks again for the great info, guys!

For some reason, I am hungry, and craving a beer! :D

The drive is not bad, if you have the time, do "avoid toll roads" options but make sure you have plenty of gas LOL.

The drive though the mountains is great, it's basically one long scenic road.

What you should maybe do is map out the places we listed, and then see how they line up with the cities you can fly into. Some things are an hour drive one way and not everyone would be OK with that. You can probably skip the motel, although it's a fun area, it's about a 40 minute drive from the Peekamoose restaurant, and staying there for the trip may be a bit much as it's about an hour from were you need to be for the games.

But the brewery is very close and so is the mill to where you will be in Cooperstown.

Almost forgot, something baseball related that your son would enjoy if the schedule is right for this.

There is a baseball league in the area that re-creates the old style baseball games from turn of the century and a reailroad ride though the mountains that runs around the Roxbury area that would be fun for your kid. I think it's about an hour outside of Cooperstown.

Hopefully you have enough time to visit the places, this is one of my favorite areas to go to, we've been going there since our 9th anniversary and we're on our 14th. Woodstock is also in range of where you will be, both the town and the farm the concert was at, although the town is very touristy and is mostly shopps selling you stuff.
