removing joint collars

If I were wanting a Mezz shaft for a collarless sneaky would it be possible to get a shaft and then have the phenolic collar taken off and have the hole rethreaded to accomodate the shortened length?

I've contacted them about getting a collarless shaft directly through them but haven't heard back yet..

Not sure if this is a viable option.

If I'm understanding your question correctly, the answer is yes but you'll obviously end up with a shorter shaft. The diameter of the shaft at the face of the joint will also be several thousandths of an inch smaller and may not match the butt of your cue very well.

A tidy solution would be to just have a matching collar put on the butt, but if you're opposed to that, then I'd suggest just having the phenolic collar turned off and replaced with a simple maple collar. If the collar is a close match to the shaft, it would hardly be noticeable unless looking at it close up. The advantage is the shaft remains at it's original spec, and it would be very easy to change the collar out later if wanted.

I didn't think of that. I'll ask my guy to do that then if they won't make a collarless one..

I won't build a cue without at least a phenolic ring at the joint, shaft and one as a butt cap. They add much strength to a weak area of the cue plus they help seal the ends of the wood where almost all of the moisture transfer takes place.
