With already three names announced and two spots left for the upcoming Mosconi Cup XX, one has to assume the best players in the last 19 installments of Matchroom's flagship show will come back...

So I'm asking, who do you think would be the best team for the USA, and will be filling the last two spots ?

IMO, there are three names in contention, although Jeremy Jones has played and won a few Cups.

one of the 2 better be earl, regardless of personality conflicts, and that is all I have to say about that!

My vote is for Corey and Earl. Earl has been playing his best in years(my personal feelings about him to the side) and Corey has also played very well this year.

It's going to be tough to deny Earl the chance this year, he has been playing some great pool! I like to watch both Corey and Dennis but my pick would be Corey, I just think his game is at a higher level than Dennis right now.

This is got to be Earl and Corey.
Both superior to Hatch.

Hatch is more of a head case then Earl. Besides what has Hatch done besides be overhyped. He's dominated the regional Joss tour for years, that's it. And over that period has never won their marquee event(Turning Stone)

Dennis Hatch has a genuine team spirit that gets everyone motivated around him; thus, why he was voted MVP his first Mosconi Cup. Nobody wants to win more than Dennis, and he gives his all.

Having Earl Strickland on the team is a no-brainer. Of course, he belongs there on the 20th anniversary of the Mosconi Cup.

Pool needs a personality. Win or lose, the Mosconi Cup is about team spirit. I want to enjoy the Mosconi Cup. It's fun to watch spirited players with personalities as opposed to emotionless robotic tournament soldiers who never smile or utter a peep.

Anyone who says Earl and Dennis can't play strong is a Monday morning quarterback.

Those are my thoughts!

I'm the lone vote for Corey and Hatch. Earl's great for the entertainment value but I simply don't think he's better than either of them (yes, I know he won Turning Stone).

Johnny gives plenty team spirit and rallying. Dennis gets the other team as pumped up to beat us, as he does for our team. He was very weak last year along with Dechaine, Shuff, and we still almost won.

We need to trot our best 5 out and if Europe wins they win. They don't just put someone in for Pom Pom reasons, why should we.

Since last year, Dennis has dissolved a relationship and quit his full-time employment. Both of those things prevented him from playing pool full-time, as he is today.

When Dennis is playing full-time, he's top shelf.

Look, I'm not taking anything away form Corey Deuel. I happen to like the way he exercises strategies he's developed and applies them to certain equipment. That is a skill set not all players have. ;)

Dennis is back. When he was at MC last time, he had not been hitting thousands of balls every day like he is now.

Nobody can deny Dennis has spirit, which is infectious. Even if he does attract the other team, that's great for ratings. That is what Mosconi Cup should be about: good ratings. Dennis is good for TV. He's got personality-plus.

What I am trying to convey about Dennis Hatch is the following. Check out him on the cover of this pool magazine Look at the spirit, the emotion, the personality! USA, ALL THE WAY!

This is the year TEAM USA won with Dennis on the team.

I really would like to see Dennis representing Team USA this year. He's got it all.

Dennis gets Team USA pumped up and shows gratitude to each player on his team. Here he is giving Johnny a big ol' bear hug after Johnny wins his match. TEAM SPIRIT!

TV audiences like to see this kind of interaction. Pool needs a personality and emotion.

I am guessing that some readers of this thread may not realize that three members have already been chosen. As well, Buddy Hall has been chosen as co-captain but will not be playing.

The three members that have been chosen are, as follows:

  • Johnny Archer (co-captain and team member)
  • Shane Van Boening (team member)
  • Rodney Morris (team member)

Buddy Hall and Johnny Archer are co-captains. Johnny Archer is a team-playing co-captain as well.

There are two slots left that remain open for Team USA. :) HTH!
