Best State to Play Pool In

That's where I'll be in a week. I'd suggest looking into hotel prices well in advance. Turns out, the Wednesday night that I'll be there is just about the most expensive night of the week! Most mid-range rooms are going for $300-$400/night - at least around Central Park on the South/West? side. Next trip, I'm hitting up a Groupon/LivingSocial deal and will either stay on Long Island or get a place in Manhattan again, but I sure won't be paying the same.

I've heard the same thing from about everybody, that the subway system can get you pretty much anywhere you want to go.

Hey, next week, I'll be manning one of the HP booths at the Interop show at the Jacob Javits Center -- either booth 119 or conference room MR731.

Not sure if I.T./Networking is your thing, but if it is, stop by, if you get a chance!

Yes, the subway system in NYC will take you *anywhere* on one fare, either directly, or by transferring from one subway train to another. You can even transfer to/from (between) subway and bus on that same single fare.

Here's an online subway map: http://mta.info/maps/submap.html

...or a PDF version if you prefer: http://mta.info/nyct/maps/subwaymap.pdf

Hope this is helpful!

Thanks, Sean.

IT isn't quite my thing any more. I reserve most of my computer use now for watching videos and posting here. Definitely not my g/f's thing, unless it involves Star Trek. :o

We arrive at 9am Wednesday and head up to Maine on Thursday afternoon, so not too much time there for first-time visitors. I wanted to see NYC, my g/f had also never been, so I decided that a stop there would be nice before I take her for a drive to see the fall foliage of New England on our way up the coast.

Our unofficial plans are.. top of the rock, central park, liberty/ellis island boat ride, museum of natural history and who knows what we could even fit in to those activities, if anything. It'll be a bit of a teaser before I take another trip out there, a bit like SoCal was for her last year.

Portland has a pretty good single-fare kind of system, too. Just not as massive as NYC's. We're staying pretty close to Central Park, so most of what we do should be within walking distance.

I started to look into places like Amsterdam Billiards, but with only being there one night, an expensive one at that, I'll have to hold off until next time. :(

The boat rides depart pretty close to the Javits spot, so if anything, there may be a slim chance I could pop in and say hi. Will know more once we're there.
