I already know the answer as I'm sure most of you do too. Big difference between short races in tournament play and playing someone for the cheese.

The problem here is that the op thinks that a race to 5 or 8 is a superior benchmark than a race to 100 in terms of who the better is.

Tell you what, how about tennis players play best of 55 sets instead of best of 5? Because we'd surely get the best player at the end, and not just the best endurance player...

Does a race to 5, or a race to 8 for that matter, contain it's fair share of luck? Of course, but so does a 90 minute football (soccer) match. But when the same players keep winning those races to 5 or races to 8, then guess what? It isn't luck.

It is only ridiculous if your boy loses. If he wins a race to 100 then it proves how great he is. In pool we have sprints and marathons.

Some people are good at one and not the other and some people are good at both.

There aren't any world titles or other big events played to super long distances so actually it's completely irrelevant...

Who were the top money players in the 70's? Who were the top money players in snooker in the 70's? Who are the top money players now for money in snooker? What about golf? Who are the top sticks for the cash at golf? Someone mentioned tennis, yes? The top dog for the dollar at tennis trips off most peoples tongues. They mean far more than grand slams after all.

Big cash means nothing. The Philippines are full of players that would lock SVB in a room to get at him if they could..

Titles talk years, decades even, after they were won.

You fool yourself. Shane is well known in the Philippines and only a handful of players dare to try him for any significant money.

This is pool and pool culture we are talking about. In pool culture the money player is as revered as the tournament player. Even Daz speaks about his gambling as a measure of how he ranks himself as a player. He has much more respect for the money player than you do.

Anyway this is all just fun to argue about. Until all the top players are playing together on a unified tour there is no way to measure who is best. Daz is better outside America and Shane is better inside it if you count titles. If you count money matches Shane is clearly better with more big LONG matches against big time tough players.

Both of them have played in the Philippines, both of them are up on their trips. You can match this up a hundred ways and it comes down to both of them are world class players who are at the top of their game. Neither is "better" than the other, they just both excel at different times.

It's not. I don't have a dog in this fight (I'm assuming this thread has turned into SVB vs. Daz) as I'm a big fan of both players and think they're both in the discussion for who is the best player in the world right now.

Those who think you must play till somebody quits have never played long matches or matches against deep pockets. But even if they were the ultimate "decider", how many games? How much money? Would Shane be the best in a race to 100? What about 500? If a player offers to play for a million and no one has a million to bet, does that make the player the best?

And for those who think a players fails because he doesn't win every match, or that anyone can't be beaten, I have a 1-0 lifetime record against Willie Mosconi...guess he wasn't so good, huh?

This reminds me of match play in golf. In watching match play over the years, I've heard all of the players say on any given day, anything can happen. Even when they rank it and 64 is playing a 1 seed. They are still all pros and anything can happen. These guys are playing too close together for a race to 8.

If there is something in SVB's head, you haters better hope he doesn't get it worked out!
 
Anyone knows the results to TAR 29, shane vs dennis?

I can see dennis won, but I was wondering the actual results of the 8b, 10b and, 1p.
Or at least who won what..
