New Mosconi Cup Format

After all the recent conversation about the US team's ugly showing at this year's MC and the debate over who should or shouldn't represent the country next year, I have a suggestion .....
What if the event was open to every pool player in the country and you needed to qualify to EARN your spot. Let's say that six Major Tournaments were held during the year in 6 different regions of the country..(Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, etc.) and you had to win your region, in other words,where you LIVE, to represent your country. Wouldn't this system better represent the six best players the country has to offer?
Would Earl win the Northeast? Would JA win the Southeast? Wouldn't this format create a lot of excitement around the event? At least the players that made it would have worked hard to get there and maybe, just maybe would show some team spirit?
Just my two cents....

And it's more than possible that the 5 US players may have won those spots. That doesn't change the fact that during the event they acted completely unprofessional. Still doesn't change the fact that they had no interest in performing as a team. And doesn't change the fact that some of them were more interested in partying and enjoying a vacation instead of representing their country in front of a world wide television audience.

And furthermore, qualifying for the event does nothing to ensure that team US may have a better showing against the Europeans.

The only way America stands any chance at all against a team Europe is if Barry Hearn mandates that team Europe must be comprised of their junior (18 and younger) champions. And then, its a pick-em.
