After all the recent conversation about the US team's ugly showing at this year's MC and the debate over who should or shouldn't represent the country next year, I have a suggestion .....
What if the event was open to every pool player in the country and you needed to qualify to EARN your spot. Let's say that six Major Tournaments were held during the year in 6 different regions of the country..(Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, etc.) and you had to win your region, in other words,where you LIVE, to represent your country. Wouldn't this system better represent the six best players the country has to offer?
Would Earl win the Northeast? Would JA win the Southeast? Wouldn't this format create a lot of excitement around the event? At least the players that made it would have worked hard to get there and maybe, just maybe would show some team spirit?
