Years ago I had Szamboti make me a cue exactly like a plain 4 point Balabushka rings in the joint and so on. I was surprised to see when I got the cue it had four thin veneers just above the butt cap that matched the point colors. I guess he was not going to copy a cue without his own stamp on it. I never even called him about the veneers I didn't order, I knew why he did it. It was not that I was looking to have a fake Balabushka I just liked the cue design. I think a tribute cue needs to be marked in some way though. Now that I think about it, I wonder if someone who reads this forum owns the cue today? Szamboti's don't get thrown away I am sure the cue is still around.
Some years ago I had a cue I got that was sort of a copy of a Spain cue with the delrin joint. It was not a particularly good cue and I got rid of it on ebay for like $80.00. Maybe a year or so later it popped up back on ebay being sold as a Burton Spain cue and sold for over a $1000.00. The guy who was selling it, (Who is dead now) was a well known cue dealer. The cue looked like it had had some work done to it to make it look even more like a Spain cue but it was the same cue.
