OB Classic Pro shaft size

I'm curious if anyone has had one made at 12.25 or have any played with one larger than the standard 11.75.

If they are custom made larger I'm curious how they compare to say a Z2 deflection wise at 12 or 12.25.

They play well at 11.75 & deflect slightly less than a Z2 but would like some input on the above.

BTW how well do the splices match in color? I have always been turned off by a splice or two that are way different shades.

Thanks

RBC is the man to talk with here on AZB. His name is Royce Brunnel, of OB cues.

I know I will have to check with Royce but meanwhile I thought someone might have ordered or played with a larger shaft. Never hurts to have more than one opinion.
Thanks

Rod,

We can take an OB Classic which starts at 12.75mm and turn it down to 12.25mm. We do not turn them down any smaller than that as the warranty becomes void if you turn one of our shafts down more than a half mm from where it started out.

The OB Pro which starts at 11.75mm can also be turned down as low as 11.25mm (same rules apply as above)

Hope this helps.

Shane:

Good info -- thanks!

A side question -- why was the OB Classic Pro renamed to "OB Pro"? Folks familiar with the motif/construction of the "Classic" line (with air [or balsa?] used in the first 6 inches of the shaft vs. the OB-1/OB-2 line, which uses silicone; and a traditional low-profile ferrule instead of the wood ferrule that is used in the OB-1/OB-2) may get confused with the sudden re-name of the OB Classic Pro product to "OB Pro."

Thoughts?

Yes it does, thanks. I am trying to get away from hollow or what ever filler is used is LD shafts. I don't care for the muffled or softer hit. I thought an OB Classic Pro or OB Pro as you call it would start at a larger diameter & then turned down to 11.75.

If that is not the case I guess I am SOL. lol I had an opportunity to play with the Pro shaft & really liked it except for the diameter. My Z2's hollow end is short on feedback plus a little small at 11.75.

So since I'm out of options I guess its time to cut my Tiger down to 12.25. Thanks

I have three OB shafts (OB1, Classic and Break). You have to look REAL closely to see the laminations. There's no color difference, or it's so slight as to be invisible.

I grabbed their Classic Pro right after it came out and was a little annoyed at the variance in colors going around the shaft. I think it was just mine though, as the other OB cues I've seen don't have the issue nearly as apparent as that one. I also have an OB Break that looks pretty uniform throughout.

The one's I've seen there is quite a difference. Like the Pro shaft I tried, some variance with one splice a lot darker. They don't make what I want so its moot at this point.

How's that possible, when an OB Pro (formerly "OB Classic Pro") is 11.75mm stock? You mean OB Classic?

-Sean

That's my guess unless OB tapered a Classic the same as a Pro. OR the Pro started larger in diameter? Is the Classic is built the same as the Pro except for diameter & taper? If so then I'd be interested if deflection was as good as a Z2 or very close. I forgot another option, maybe the taper on Chuck's shaft was a modified pro. I think that is what Shane eluded to in his post?
