What are practice pads?

Neil,
Since no one else has answered: When learning/practicing jumps, you place the practice pad underneath the cueball, so if you miss or miscue or otherwise hit the table with your cuetip, you have a swatch of cloth there to protect the playing surface.

Thanks for that Gary. Seeing a picture with a tip and a piece what looked like some table felt, I thought they were tips for those learning.
A lot of tables out here , have a piece of table cloth to place down, then the balls are placed on the table to reduce ball placement wear on the tables.
