Hello fellow AZer's,

I'm going to be in Jacksonville, FL, all next week on business. Any recommendations on where to play? Any one pocket players there?

Thanks in advance.

Well you got Q Ball and Bankshot Billiards basically right next to each other on Beach. Down in Orange Park you got Park Avenue Billiards (avoid the bridge at evening commute). There was a place down in Mandarin off of San Jose but don’t know if that is still around. Over in Avondale/Edgewood there is Perfect Rack Billiards.

Anyone know if Thorsten Hohmann still lives here and gives lessons?

I saw Thorsten last year at QBall.

Park is probably the best place to play, but I like Qball, then Bankshot. Lately, I've been playing at Qball more. I like the atmosphere and the tables are kept well. Billiardfactory is a good alternative. Its the only place I know in Jax that has a 3c table.

I went to bankshots a couple of years ago. Nice place. There was a good hot dog
Cart outside by the club. No action that night

Park Ave has a couple of real good weekly tournaments with excellent players. I forget which night though. Plenty of action there bit you better hit um good.

scottjen26 is in jacksonville
pm him if you want
plays well/ gives lessons too/nice guy

As mentioned - Bankshots, QBall, Riggsys, Park Av are your best bets, just depends on what side of town you are on. QBall is smoke free as well.

You mentioned one pocket, there are some guys that play on Tuesday nights at Bankshots. I don't play, I think they are decent but not great and like to gamble a little.

If you play 9-ball, Monday night $10 tourney at Qball, $10 Tuesday night tourney at Park Av (tougher competition there), $10 handicapped tourney on Thursdays at Riggsys. All double elimination, nice tourneys.

Billiard Factory is a retail store selling pool tables, dinettes, cues, accessories, etc., on University. They have 6 tables for rent as well, $5 for an hour or $10 for 2 or more hours. 2 GC V's and 2 Metro tables, Olhausen and a home-style Brunswick I never play on. plus as mentioned a 3C table.

I teach there and actually do a free monthly clinic on Wednesday nights, happens to be next Wednesday on the 9th, starts at 6pm. I teach for 30 - 40 minutes, answer questions, then walk around and help people until 7:30 - 8pm. This month covering position play, if you are interested stop on by and introduce yourself.

I'll also be out playing somewhere Tuesday and Thursday night next week, plus up at Billiard Factory around lunch pretty much each day either practicing or giving lessons. PM me if you want to get together. I don't play 1P, but the recent match between Lou and JB has inspired me so maybe we could play and you could teach me something...

And yes, Thorsten still lives here, just saw him last week. He travels a lot, he's in town for a week or two, then back out, then here for another few weeks before traveling again for the next set of tourneys. Busy guy...
