Help buying my first pool cue

Hey,

I Recently started playing pool a couple months ago, really love the game and I always play at my local pool hall, but the house sticks are all beat up... not looking for anything too flashy I just want to put a kamui black medium tip on whatever I buy one is $60 and the other is about $110... I was also looking at the mcdermott g core series cue for $220 if anyone thinks the two below aren't so good, let me know why i should spend the extra money to buy the mcdermott. Thanks so much!

You should really post in the wanted/for sale section and let everyone know how much you want to spend and buy a really nice used cue. The three you posted are all great beginner cues but i think your money will be better spent on a quality used cue. Good luck and im glad you are enjoying the greatest game on earth

If you play on a bar box, any cue will do.


But if you play on a nine foot table, you will need a better cue

with power steering, power brakes, and cruise control.:smile:



Cheap cues do not work well on a nine foot table.

Buy the cheaper one until you know what you really want. Then, don't expect it to improve your game, realize you're just buying a more expensive one because you like it.

Thanks for the great feedback everyone, I play on a 9ft Gold Crown and I decided to just go with the players sneaky pete... seems like it will get the job done and the upgraded tip should help. Maybe later on down the road I'll get something nicer that really appeals to me.

Just one more question, I noticed the sneaky pete ($60) got more votes than the other exotic players cue ($110), why is that? When reading the description for the exotic cue it seemed like more bang for the buck, everything seems the same between the two it just mentions some extra features on the exotic like it has a special high-impact ferrule and an implex joint... a little bit more elaboration on this would be much appreciated.

Good advice here. There are plenty of solid deals to be found.

Yup, these cues are probably the best bang for the buck but the players sneaky isn't bad either. I'd go with what you like the looks of better.

That's a good cue for a bar box but for extreme draw or high follow through on a nine foot table,
it's not going to get you where you want to be. You'll need to force the cue ball.

Of course you can always buy a $200 dollar shaft that will fix that.:yeah:

Do you shoot with a Players Cue with the original shaft?:yes:

any 9 footer with 860, 860HR, 760, 3030, or 3020... all day long

I have owned several players cues over the years, and as long as you put a decent tip on them, they will shoot just fine.

They don't "feel" very good... at all. But performance wise, if you can't get draw out of a players, the problem is your stroke, not the shaft.

I agree. I don't get the same feel as with my players cue as my custom but I can get plenty of action with the players. It's more in the stroke and the tip than the cue itself.
