how are ya'll doing in league ?

another brag comin spimp.:D

played my napa league tonight. i won the lag and went and looked at the race matrix.

8 ball ...me 5 him 3

9 ball ..me 3 him 4

10 ball.. 4-4 race.

i quickly ruled out 9 ball with me being the under dog. i hardlt ever play 9 ball even though i think my game has improved. i have watched this kid and he is a straight shooter and hits every thing warp speed and gets more than his share of lucky rolls due to the slop factor.

10 ball was a 50/50 race so i ruled it out.

i chose 8 ball even though i gotta spot him 2 games. also figured 8 ball was my best and his worst game.

i won 5-1 mainly because i got him frustrated with my saftey play .he took several flyers at warp speed...kinda reminded me of some apa players. helps when you get at least 1 bih each rack :D the 1 game i lost was because i got careless on my next to last ball .

immediately after i won he asked if i gambled. i said i have occasionally. he challenged me to a race in 9 ball. i said i don't gamble on slop. we can play either 8 or 10 ball. he declined.

as i sat down a team mates g/f said ...i am glad you beat him...he is a cocky lil ass hole. i would not know as i have never faced him before and i am new to this league.

i looked up his stats after i got home and saw he is in 1st place in points. guess thats a decent reason to be a lil cocky. i thought that was kinda a lil nitty of him to ask to gamble after he got an ass whippin by me though.

Dammmn!!! :love2::love2: nice shooting...When playing my matches I definitely try not to be a cocky &#@%$^ and absolutely respect my opponent, unless they try to cheat me.

A few years back I played a 6 who took a practice stroke and tapped the cue ball. He then went to get ready to continue shooting to which I had to stop him and ask him if that was a foul. He scoffed and said "I guess" wft lol....yeah I beat him 5-0. Never motivate a 7 with a win % of over 80 imo lol...sometimes a little motivation makes me give the effort to just destroy my opponent (not always of course)

Maybe you should come play for me, you have more confidence in what will happen LOL

I'll post a full report on my first league match on a crappy table when it's over.

Hard to believe, but this is maybe the 4th time in my 24ish years of playing that I am playing on a really bad 7 footer. And maybe only the dozenth time that I am playing on a 7 footer.

As I thought I would, I played a 3 last night to my 7 ranking. With how TAP does the handicaps it was a 5-2 race. Or maybe 6-2, I don't remember now hehe.

I won 5-1 (or 6-1 if my memory is bad). The table was not as bad as my friend said, but the cueball would not draw at all and the cloth slowed the balls down pretty fast. I hit the cueball hard enough to draw all the way across the table, it went back 6 inches.

Unfortunately I was the only one of my team that won last night in our 5 sets.

It seems me being a new player to the league and a 7 is attracting attention, I was told that people are already planning on their matches against me with the better players asking to play me.

Last week, I was pretty frustrated with my 9-ball game, and told you all about it. I felt that I didn't hit the ball hard enough, and that I would leave my misses in an easy position for my opponent.

My solution, I felt, was to either hit the shots harder or to stop missing.

Last night, I stopped missing :-)

I stepped to to play, hit some shots the way I always do, I said to myself that I wasn't gonna change the way I play. I felt good, and beat my opponent 17-3.

We will see if it carries over, but at least this week was a success.

Start looking at more two way shots more. What I mean is play shots on occasion that leave you a shot on your next ball if you make it, but not an easy shot for your opponent when you miss. This includes sometimes leaving them a bank shot vs leaving it right by a pocket. I have gotten better at doing this. If you aren't seeing the table for this type of thing then during a practice session play the ghost and do it 1-2 times during the game vs the ghost as a requirement just for practice. I can elaborate on this if it doesn't make sense.

Big Announcment!

I got invited to join an new 9-ball team in APA, by a captain who I already respect. Can't wait to finally play some 9-ball on a regular basis, even if it is bastardized 9-ball.

I'm afraid you'll have to elaborate a bit more, I'm apparently a little dense. (Maybe a lot!)

Thanks

Go for shots that won't leave your opponent squat. One of the best ways to learn that is playing bar rules and having to "go for" everything(or make it look that way).

pool sure is a frustrating game some times.:(

been playing real good 8 ball lately so i thought i would work on my 9 ball game.

my 9 ball break sucks...either i ry break or pocket something and hooked on the lowest ball. i mean every time it is one or the other.

i saw a you tube video linked in a thread here a week or 2 ago. i think it was mosconi 2007? the guy was breaking from the head string about a diamond over.

i thought i would try it last night and i saw immediate improvement. made at least 1 or 2 every break and always had a shot at the lowest ball. then my g/f's son wanted to play some with me.

tonight i decided to practice some more and keep notes. started out great and went south for some reason.

1st rack...2 fell and a b&r

2nd rack...2 fell and a b&r

3rd rack 9 snap bottom left corner

4th rack 9 snap bottom right corner plus 1 ball

5th rack..1 on break ran to the 7 which i got outa position on

6th rack ..2 fell and ran to the 7 again which i rattled

7th rack..scratch

8th rack dry break

9th rack ..2 fell ..no shot on the 1 ball

10th rack dry break

11th rack dry break

12 rack .. dry break

13th rack ..dry break

14th rack dry break

15th rack 2 fell ...missed a hard cut on the 1 ball

my g/f's son come into the game room and wanted to play me some so it was the end of me keeping notes.

under apa scoring i scored 31 points before i gave up the table. not bad for a 5 who's 9 ball break has always sucked. this was the 1st 2 back to back b&r's i have ever had.

from the 7th rack on my break went started sucking again and i was doing exactly what i did the 1st 6 racks.

gonna stick it out with this new break position and see if i can fine tune it.

tonight was the 1st night of new session. as i stated before i turned the team over to my g/f.

we lost our 7/9... our 6/6 and a 5/5. we picked up 2 kids . one 18 and the other 19. the 18 is my g/f's other son. as you know all males start as 4's. got a feeling both these kids will be 3/2's before long.

our team make up now is 5...5... 3...3...3... and the 2 new kids starting as 4's.

we had a respectful 1st night. won 9 ball 58-42 lost 8 ball 8-6. our other 5 who ya'll have read me ***** about on here had a very good night in 9 ball. he beat a very good 4 17/3. now why could;nt he play like that in playoffs instead of losing to a poor 3 16-4 which cost us not going to tri cups. then he loses 8 ball 5-0 to the guy i was telling you i beat 4-2 last tue who placed 5th in the singles nationals,

as for me tonight ? man my 9 ball break still sucks after doing nothing but practicing breaking for the last 3 days. i lost 38-37 due to my lousy break.

won 8 ball 4-2. in a 4-4 race. pulled one of dubs numbers and hit the 8 too soft and leaving it hanging for my opponent. cost me 1 rack lol.

we already qualified for 8 ball cities but due to losing all our better players this team ain't got a chance in hell now. like i said in an earlier post i acheived what i set out to do by taking this team to vegas when i took it over. now i can just show up and play my game without all the hassles.

just gotta work on my 9 ball break.

I think the biggest issue with breaking on what are often crappy bar tables during league is that you can't get a good rack together, the rails are often funny and the cloth is dirty in places and with holes in others.

From looking at many breaks, the issue is only 50% with the breaker, and 50% with the rack and table.

I think the job of breaker in those situations is not scratching on the break and keeping the cueball controlled, the making a ball part in 9 ball seems to largely be on the side of the good rack and table.

It sounds like you have a tendency to leave your opponent with a duck when you miss. Always look at the position of your next shot and will that position be good for your opponent if you don't make the first ball? Another thing you can do is change the speed of your shot so if you do miss the ball is not necessarily hanging in the pocket but you will potentially leave your opponent a "non duck". Banks are a great example of doing something like this. There will be times where I bank and try to judge the speed that I will leave my opponent a bank if I miss my angle. Now there are times where you rattle the pocket or leave a hanger, but there are also times where you hit a good speed and do a 2-way shot so that you leave your opponent a bank or a harder cut than just a hanger when you miss.

It would definitely be easier for me to show this in person, but hopefully you get the gist of it. A lot of people don't really pay enough attention to where the cue ball ends up, or even the speed of the ball they are shooting selling out more often then not. Now that doesn't mean just start playing push/tap defense of balls toward pockets that will leave your opponent soso if you miss...but it is a good tool to have in your arsenal and while it may not come up too often, it could "potentially" come up more than you think in certain situations.

I'm a 9 and I'd be happy with that. Congrats on the strung bnr's, too.

our team make up now is 5...5... 3...3...3... and the 2 new kids starting as 4's.

That could be a pretty dangerous line-up. I've seen teams like that do pretty well. You never know, one of those kids could take to pool like a fish to water.

From looking at many breaks, the issue is only 50% with the breaker, and 50% with the rack and table.

And half the time it's both! :(

All App

We will be final testing this week, preparing for the 2.0 apps full release in June.
All 28 captains in the Riverside CA test division will be on app tonight with Las Vegas, North Texas & Miami getting close. Multiple leagues around the country are going paperless this year and it's awesome to see.

You bite your tongue!!! My record is a 4 pack for both 8 and 9 ball. It kind of sucks because I know the ability is there but it just doesn't show up as often as I wish it would sigh

I'm still trying to get to the 3 pack club! My best is a two pack out the gate, play safe and run out, another two pack, and more safes and outs in a race to 7 for a 7-0 victory.

Right when I'm on the verge of a 3 pack, I have to duck.

Are team got first place and then we won the playoffs so we are LTC qualified. My caption got the sportsman award, and I won the MVP I won 8 out of 10 and scored 33 points in the top gun so I say it was a good session for us

We play in APA and got into the tri cup. Hopefully we can do well and can get into the LTC.

VEGAS here we come. :-) (wishful thinking)
