I'm trying to replace the tip of my BK2 to a phenolic tip , do i have to use the same loctite ultra gel without a tendency of popping it? how do you do it ? they said it can pop off easily if you don't do it right. There is a black fiber underneath the tip right now....

Thanks,
Pampi

The pad underneath the phenolic tip needs to remain in place.
Remove the pad and you void the warranty.

Take your cue to a competent cue tech who is familiar with phenolic tips and let him do it right.

Good answer. To often I read about taking a cue to a mechanic for simple repairs. Usually this is both expensive and time consuming. The mechanic probably won't charge that much for his services but your time has a value also.

I have been doing cue repair since the late 60's and I had to ask this very same question. It's very hard to keep tips on a break cue. Shock is what causes most tips to come off. While breaking, you are usually using a very hard stroke, don't have as much control of the cue so often you are not hitting center ball causing a mis-cue. This is shock.

Although I don't do many break tips I have experimented with many different glues. None worked as well as expected.

Many mechanics, myself included, have found that Loc-tite Ultra control Gel glue works pretty good for most tips. Steve Lomax posted that he has found that Loc-tite Professional glue works better for break tips. Steve is both a mechanic and a cue builder and break cues are his specialty. If any one, he should know.

Good luck.
