Competition Ball VS Club Ball.

Could someone explain the difference between these two sets of balls?

The pervious pool room I practiced only has competition balls, so that didn't cause much of problem.

However the new place I practice, which is nearer to my home, they have two sets of balls. Usually they gives out normal club balls to people who play there.

They have competition balls as well but usually they only give them to the regulars and upon request.

I didn't thought there were much difference in terms of the overall performance of the ball, maybe just the club balls would have poorer surface quality, so I played there for a few weeks with the club ball, everything seemed good.

Last night out of curiosity I requested the competition balls and I find the two set of balls feels very different.

Some how the competition ball has much higher throw effect , deflection and swerve seems to be a lot higher as well.

Just want to know , normally I don't brother about it, but it actually kinda affected my mood in some way, so I just wanna ask, is it me or these two set of balls really plays a little differently ?

Thanks guys,

Vin

Pool ball cut-induced throw and cling/skid/kick experiment

This was the name of the thread. Type it in forum search.

Ok thanks guys, I will check that out.

I think I will play with the competition "boxed" balls from now onwards, as I certainly doesn't want to have any surprise when come to any tournaments.

Is that the actual brand name of the ball sets? Or just what you and the room calls them?

There are differences in the way different ball sets play. From the cheap ones to the good ones is a huge difference. Between the top sets there is a difference but not quite as much.

One of the rooms I plays in has a few sets of Aramith Pro balls for those that know to ask for them and for league play, they hand out the cheap sets to the rest.

There are several long threads about different sets of balls, if you do a search you will find tons of info.

Thanks for the info.

Actually we call them "normal balls" & "competition balls". I thought it will sound pretty weird in the forum so I differentiate them by "club balls " & ""competition balls"

I think they are both from Aramith, the only differences is that "normal balls" are Aramith premium and "competition balls" are Aramith Pro-cup TV.

The aramith pro-cup tv maintains relatively much better than the premium.

The two sets of balls just feels much different. I guess it might have something to do with the surface treatment it has, and been a newer balls, so I am just wondering.

I think I will stick with the aramith pro cup tv balls then.

One of the poohalls that I used frequent offered two different sets of balls. An Aramith Premier (not Super Pros), and the heavy sets (Brunswick Centennials) which the staff supplied upon request.

This poolhall had an insanely low monthly rate ($60-$75), so I ended up bring my own set, chalk and racks.

I used to bring my cue balls, but I realise I can't effectively clean it, and over the time it plays a little different than the other balls.

Just a slight note, the new cloth they put on a few table is the new "Andy 500" from Taiwan. It feels a bit different from simonis cloth too.

I'm currious how the Andy cloth plays, how does it play different? Is it faster or slower than Simonis?

I can't say for slower/faster as Andy seems to have different specs for the cloth, we have a few tables put on Andy 500 which is quite ok, however Andy 900 or something seems much faster.

What made me curious was that the material seems denser.

The cloth seems to eat up spin much more than simonis , but not the force that it travels parallel to the table.

Also, interesting to note,I remember one table where slow rolls on simonis are relatively straight, but after they put on andy it changes direction quite obviously.

Jump shots seems to be a little bit harder to pull off too, but maybe it's just because I don't jump that often, but I do hear the claims that some cloth will make jump shots rather hard.

My opinion, maybe it's just very new cloth, have to test more to find out.
