Didn't play 8-ball this week, our team won 9-5.

Played 9-ball tonight, won 15-5 vs a pretty good SL5. Probably my best 9-ball win in a while, maybe not point-spread wise, but winning as convincingly as I did against a player as good as my opponent tonight is. Pretty satisfying.

now that most people have given their opinions on pay outs for money leagues lets get back to our regular scheduled programming . :D

I'm 3-2 so far in 9-ball this session.

IIRC, we only have 2 or 3 weeks left in the session and we are on the road to another 1st place division win!

Well put. You just summarized it perfectly.

Thanks for saying so...
(now on another note...)
We just finished our 9 ball season last night. We were 4th and looking at a 3rd place finish going up against the #2 team. But if we could sweep all 5 matches last night we would finish in 2nd place. We knew it was highly unlikely against a team that just one week ago was tied for #1.
We pulled together "as a team" and took out our opponents 4-1. Everyone stepped up and our team captain did a great job in selecting the lineup last night. It appears that we only missed 2nd place by about 4 points. But at the end of it all last night... we were celebrating because (regardless of the money) taking out the team that was in first just a week earlier by 4 to 1 is a good working team effort.
We can't always have weeks like that... but it showed in the final tournament just how strong we could be as a group when the pressure is on.
So we took #2 in 8 ball and #3 in 9. Not the top of the board... but we know that we can compete with any team out there and we're not just banging balls around for fun.
But win or loose... it's still fun at any level.

its not league related but i did not want to start a thread posting this .:D

as i mentioned in a previous post i am playing in a big 9 ball tournament this next weekend. its gonna be loaded with serious pool players. i have been htting balls every night at home getting ready for this.

well i invited a friend of mine over who is playing in this tournament and his son. my friend is an apa 8 and his son is a 5 like me.

we played races to 7 like the tourny will be...except we played winner breaks...i believe the tourny is alternate break.

i played better than i thought i would.

against the 8.

1st match i lost 7-2

2nd match i won 7-5

3rd match i lost 7-6

against his son

1st match i won 7-0

2nd match i won 7-3

i made a couple of long early combos against the 8 that he said really impressed him. i told him i could not out shoot him so i tried for early wins lol.

oh ...and to make this league related i told him not to tell our lo how good i shot last night lol.

Moved up a level in APA

Well, I finally moved up a skill level in APA 8-ball, which Has been a goal for a long time. However, I'm now tied for 4th place in top gun, where I was first in the lower tier, which kinda sucks. Hopefully I'll win Monday night and earn enough points to keep my placement and at least qualify for the top gun tournament.
Going into last Monday night, I was first place in the lower tier by 1 point. I went rackless against the second place player, who had been in first most of the session. I'm 5-2 this session, with 22 points.

Tuesday night, APA 9-ball I played a 2, and won 25-11 in 19 innings for a 15-5 match score. My opponent sunk the 9 in a couple times, and I was nervous and (unusual for me on league nights) a little tipsy, so I thought she was a lot closer than she ended up being. I unknowingly had only 2 balls left going into the last rack, with me breaking. I was surprised when I sunk two balls on the break, and my score keeper called out "That's it!"

Congrats!

Setting goals is a great way to improve, not just in pool, but in life. There is no better feeling than setting a goal and being able to accomplish or complete that goal.

I haven't been able to get as much practice in lately, due to getting settled in the new house, but I have improved my Win/Loss. I beat another SL5 (who plays the same speed, if not significantly better than me) 14-6, last week.

I missed league yesterday after tearing one up at a pool tournament on Saturday. I did keep the cashing streak alive with a min cash in 9 ball 7th/8th. 4 for 4 so far this year in pool tournaments cashing 2 in 8 ball and 2 in 9 ball. I should just quit while I am ahead!

On a more sarcastic note anyone else who has been playing in league get annoyed when they play 5-10 warmup games and just destroy their teammate shooting phenominal, but then shoot like a putz in the league match and lose!??? It bugs the sht out of me sometimes until I remember its just a game and life will go on.

I do this all the time. I think I get overconfident and don't put the same effort into my shooting.

It is nice to accomplish that long term goal. Too bad it was at the expense of my short term goal, of top gun this session. Probably be a long while before I get close to it again, unless I keep improving.

All the time

We had a debate about which SL5 would play a few weeks ago, myself or my teammate. Our captain asked us to play each other and I proceeded to break and run two racks. Then I played my match and limped by 12-8.

I would love to read about something that happened in the pool world that doesn't involve CSI.

Just saw that NAPA is starting a singles league. I may work on my LO to get something going. I keep getting a string of "teammates" who never reply to emails or show up on league night. With teammates like these, who needs opponents?

All the time. Which is why I might play 2-3 games as a warm up, but that's it. Of course, I play better at the beginning of my matches usually, so not overdoing it early is the best choice for me.

Last Thursday I beat a sl3 18-2, ties my best 9-ball result ever. Wasn't my best, but managed the game well enough. Scored the final 18 points unanswered. (Probly 11 or 12 in a row in there).

8-ball tomorrow, looking forward to it

well i am gonna give you guys what you want but i am gonna tome it down a lil cause pink lady posts in here some times.:grin-square:

i played this mother fvcking ass hole who is a complete dick head last night. he is a damn good straight shooter and the luckiest cock sucker you ever saw.

this sum ***** drills every thing at warp speed and on the rare occasion he misses you got to pull off an efren like kick just to make contact with the object ball " playin 9 ball.

all i did last night was fvckin kick at balls. when it was finally over he was celebratin like he won the damn world series.

i was so pissed i damn near flung my cue across the room. the only thing that stopped me from flinging it is a guy is supposed to give me 2.500.00 for it next week. if it had been any other cue i had it would have been history last night i was so pissed.

i just hate it when a higher level player resorts to slop. it just frustrates the hell out of me when he finally does miss i have to kick....making contact but leave him good and he runs out. its just one of the down falls of playing a slop game i guess.

i have beat him every time i played him in napa league....just cant compete with him when he flails at every thing at warp speed in apa. i have never got as pissed off over a game in my life like i was last night.

sitting here debating on whether i should be my normal humble self tom night at napa league when i receive my money and trophy for finishing 1st place in points or shove them in this lucky warp shooting dick heads face.

Next time you play him, try to get at least 5 BIH per game, even if you can run out sooner

i am gonna try that ....thanks. :grin-square:

a buddy of mine did that to him last year in the cities. he is a 6 and my buddy is an. my buddy saftied the heck out of him and was up around 60-3 when this guy just threw his cue down and quit the match complaining my buddy played at such a high level he should not even be in the apa.

i dont mind getting beat by guys that play better than me....heck i kinda expect to get beat by them. i dont like getting beat by guys that lower are lower s/l than me but it aint gonna piss me off....i just chalk it up to a bad night.

i just hate playing a higher level player than me who not only out shoots me but slops in a 1/4 of his shots and gets good position....and when he misses you are always hooked. its just uncanny how lucky he is on leaves when he misses because he dont have a lick of cue ball control when he just flails away at every shot . " talking about when he dont have an easy shot and smacks the cue ball at warp speed hoping some thing falls some where.

um... uh... wow.

The APA 8-ball league has a SL7 out here like that.
He can't run 3 balls on a Diamond, but he's run a three pack on their home table. Their home table is a Valley with 5 1/2" pockets and consists of mismatched object balls, a valley cue ball, and cloth that came straight off the floor of a home in the 70's. I've watched the guy break and make 6 balls, then slam the cue ball around violently until he runs out.

I always hate the "hit it hard" players, and as you point out, its worse the better the player is. Fortunately we don't have too much of that around here, a little occasionally. There is one guy who bounces between 6 & 7 that does it occasionally, but not all game.

Sorry you went thru that crap
