Simonis/Championship alternatives

hang-the-9

I'm pricing out setting up my 8' table and looks like the Championship Tour and any Simonis is going to be quite a bit over $200.

Originally Str8-Shots were going to send my son a free bolt to use but unfortunately they pretty much collapsed and that is not an option.

I have $500 I can spend for setup and cloth, but looks like the price of the cloth will push that price up to over $600. Anyone use anything cheaper that still has the smoother play area of Simonis and the Tour cloth? I am not looking for anything very fast as fast cloth on an 8 footer will be a bit much for position play without hitting every shot super soft.

If anyone knows anyone that can get me a good deal on cloth that will help also. Trying to get this done ASAP so my son can use the table before summer vacation is over.

$500 seems like it should cover setup and covering, unless bumpers need to be replaced. Had a 9' Moved and re clothed for around that.

This is a newer cloth made by Championship. Never tried it but sounds interesting.

I had our community center's 8-footer reclothed with Simonis 860HR, by one of Chicago's top mechanics and it ran $425.

I also need the table setup, the only thing I have up now is the frame which was only done by me to measure where I want the thing to sit.

425 is a good price seeing how the cloth online is about $300, I'd guess the cost is $200 or so. New England prices seem pretty high since two people I spoke with as well as an online price list from a place all had about a $700 price for a table setup and cloth installation, and it may be a bit more since I want the pockets tightened.

That's cheaper than what just a setup and cloth was quoted to me and the table is already sitting where it is going. Unless you uses the cheapo cloth which is about 1/3 price of Simonis.

Most people get around 200 labor just to re felt a table. Bed & Rails. You should be able to get the Championship Pro AM cloth for around 190 to 200. It is great cloth and very fast. That is what Johnny Archer has in his pool room. Its worth the extra money to get the rest of the table sit up and seemed right. Good luck

200 I can probably do. The Tour stuff was 230 and Simonis is right around 300.
Although I don't know if I like the very fast part, it's an 8 footer and I really don't want to baby every shot.

I read some older posts on here about Pro Form cloth, anyone used it for a while and have any comments? http://www.billiardwarehouse.com/accessories/proform_505_billiard_cloth.htm

A local room here reclothed with Milliken Super Pro. Huge mistake. It was great when it first went on, and then it was downhill from there quick. There is a reason why Simonis is the industry standard. Don't kick yourself in the long run.

I wouldn't skimp on having the table done right! It's not like you will be doing it again in a few months! You should spend the extra 100 or so and get it done right, THE FIRST TIME;) It will last a couple of years if done right;) I get Dave down at D&L! He's very reasonable for the quality if his work!

Have you priced the cloth through your installer? To my surprise, I got a much better price through the mechanic than I could get online (he buys it wholesale, of course).

^^^^^^^
This.

In general if you're setup guy can get simonis from a big wholeseller he will pass it on to
you at near cost as long as he gets the setup/install job. $500 should be do-able assuming your
install guy lives near you or is coming thru town (aka, not much gas money needed).

If all else fails and the cloth price is really the big problem, Eliminator cloth is decent cloth,
but it ain't Simonis.

gr. Dave
