Lets-Talk-Mezz- WX700

I have done a search yes and have not found much on it, I just purchased one and I'm just waiting for it to arrive. This is the newest version of the WD700 I'm not talking about the wx900 or wd700.

So lets get to it how does this shaft preform with the stock kamui brown tip on it, and has anyone changed the setup on the shaft? Mine is a wavy joint shaft but I'm having it changed to my cue makers custom 3/8-10, so don't bother with info if you use a piloted shaft as the shaft would feel totally different.

Here is a little background on me and what aftermarket shafts I've tried. Classic 314, 314'2, Not really a fan of the feel. OB classic, and CP, both OB's only one I was OK with was the normal classic, I've also tried the tigerXpro It was an ok shaft but felt kind of cheap. I'm a huge fan of conventional shafts and I hear Mezz makes an amazing product that is not laminated therefor gives more feel but still have LD properties.

So let me know what your experience has been with the WX700.

Ok lets start with the shaft. I've been playing with it for over a month now and will say I'm much more comfortable and adjusted to the shaft than I originally was. I decided to use my glove consistantly for the first time in my pool life, the reason being the shaft direct from the factory is kind of rough and porous. With that being said it got fairly dirty with oils, dirt, grime, and chalk from extensive play. Brought it to my cue maker {Darren Hill (HillsCues)} today, and told him the issues I was having with the shaft becoming grimy and sticky and needing to use my glove all the time. He said no problem; cleaned it up and burnished the heck out of it, now its as smooth as any custom cue makers shaft. You see most custom cue makers or repair men take the time to properly smooth a shaft. I guess you can't realistically expect mass production to have the human touch. No disrespect intended. One more thing that started to bother me with the shaft was how thick the taper was at the butt end. When doing long strokes with either an open or closed bridge I found my hand getting stuck and it affected accuracy when following through. I had him sand down the clear further down the shaft and take some of the back (meat) off the shaft. Good news is he did it to perfection not sacrificing stiffness for comfortability. This is now my dream shaft. I am hooked.

So thats my update on the WX700, ask questions freely

ZAN tip update!

Ok it's been over a month since my last update on my Zan premium soft.... It's still great, it hits amazing and I even ordered another one off of Marc (our fellow AZ'r). Thanks Marc!

Problems? Not really, typical glazing after a week or so after extensive play but no biggy, I just bring some of the fibers up with a Gator grip. I have miscued, but I blame that on me not chalking as often as I should, and attempting to juice the ball with too much english when I don't need to. You see, I'm extremely used to a 13mm or 12.75mm tip; not the new 12.5 MEZZ WX700. So I'm still learning how to adjust, but I love the new shaft and tip either way .

Something new? Not for now Maybe try the new Zan Hybrid Max sometime in the future, but for now I'm happy with the Premium soft.

Any questions just ask Via PM or on the thread

The WX700 is the same shaft as WD700. The only difference is that the new WD shaft comes with a Kamui brown (M) tip instead of the Moori that came with the old WD shaft.
The shaft itself is a high grade maple shaft with Mezz proprietary nylon ferrule and "front end technology"
Wich means lower front end mass, not quite as much as 314-2, but close. The shaft feels and sounds like a traditional maple shaft.
The Kamui tip that comes with the shaft has been quite dry on the 3 shafts I have, so it has worn out rather quickly.
Looking at the Mezz web page, you can see that the WX700 is still the most used shaft among the Mezz sponsored pro's.
I believe Mika uses the new smaller diameter WX900 shaft.

Thank you Kim.

I hear the new ferrule material being used is better for tooling on a lathe because it is less effected by friction and heat. I also hear that the main complaint from people about the WD was the ferrule material mushroomed and cracked pretty easy, this came from some people that claimed they didn't even break with the shaft.

What Kamui brown is on the shaft? S, M? I know tips can dry out hope mine won't be but if it is It's all good.

Hi Drew. The nylon material Mezz uses is kinda soft and scratches easily, but i've never seen one mushroom. I can only imagine that would be the result of playing and breaking with a worn out tip.
Not that I understand the physics, but Mezz makes a point of thier ferrules having a certain elasticity...
The Kamui that is installed is a Brown Medium.
All mine have been quite dry, if it's because they are old or something happens with humidity while shipping i don't know, but the ones i've had been so dry that scuffing the tip has resulted in the leather smoldering.
The last shaft i got. I didn't even bother to play with the tip that was installed, I cut it off right away and installed a Zan Soft tip.

Had the same experience with kamui brown. Kamui is very inconsistent nowadays.

Thanks for the information, Never tried a Zan tip but I have some pretty nice milk duds and triangles. I'll see how the tip seems when it comes in, I've never tried a kamui brown but I am a fan of a medium stiff tip but would like to try something a bit softer.

Shaft is fantastic if anyone hasn't tried one I highly recommend it, nice stiff shaft density is great makes a awesome ping. Probably end up changing the tip soon to a Zan soft just cuz I want to try one out, nothings wrong with the medium kamui brown on it I actually like it a lot so far I just want to try the Zan like I said.

Wx900

I've had the pleasure of playing with this shaft for approximately 2 yrs. I've tried the z2 314 and had success although no feedback from the shaft. Mezz has made by far from my opinion the best shaft available. The Wd700 had great feel but not as accurate as I am use to (has more deflection) still a great shaft. Kudos to Mezz. Great products and more importantly great people.

I felt the same way! I'm playing with the Mezz Alpha shaft with a soft zan and it's by far my favorite combo. :)

Nice to see others using the Mezz/Zan combo:cool:
I have Zan tips installed on all my Mezz shafts: WX900, Hybrid Pro II and Hybrid Alpha :D
