I don't think a 90 degree cut would have enough speed to bank.

It will if it's the shot I am thinking about, ball on the rail or very close to it, cueball on the same rail parallel to the ball, bank the ball across. I've seen video of it but don't know exactly who did it.

Yes that's the shot ...... damn I wish someone here knew it
