*** Official Day Three Mosconi Cup Updates

I agree, if the ref didn't pick up Niel's cue, it looked like the cueball would have hit it. I believe that would have been a foul but not 100% sure...what was the ref doing anyway?

Dave

He did the exact same thing on the final 9-ball last year as well.

I'm just as disappointed as anyone else, but I can't say that any other player(s) could have produced better results. I base that on SVB's performance. I'm sure most of us would agree that he's our best player, yet even he hasn't been much of a factor so far. I feel like the first match on the first day set the tone for the remainder of the tournament.

With all the talk about John Schmidt ( I agree with all of it, and more)
I ask one question...WHERE IS THE COACH?

Isn't it part of the coaches job to keep players in check? Mentally, Emotionally,Physically,...They look like a bunch of mopes. Schmidt took everyone out of their game and Wilson let it happen.

I don't see Mark Wilson being all he is cracked up to be, maybe I am missing something, I don't think so, if so, enlighten me..PLEASE

Maybe he was counting on the Navy Seal to coach.
That is not a knock on Navy seals, I bleed red, white and blue.

Schmidt talks too much, way too much. It was like he was in a pool room playing for a beer with all the chatter coming out of his mouth.
Ridiculous how he's talking to his partner about how he dogged shape on a ball while his partner is trying to decide how to recover position and make a tough shot. It's 30 second shot clock there's no reason to interrupt your partner. I see all other guys as reserved and introverted players. You can't cope with a pressure situation by over thinking and cracking jokes. It detracts from performing and letting out your best game. He may run 400 but he dam sure didn't do it sharking himself like today.

How do you know his words didn't affect his teammates ?
It's common sense that hearing your teammates whining non-stop is not gonna help to boost up team's moral.
If he wanted to be himself so he shouldn't be on a team.
It seems common sense sometimes is not common at all.

Because if you know how someone is you allow them their foibles.

I've watched all of the MC so far and I'm sick. Only with the score line though. I'm still behind this team 100%. The U.S. team needs Shane to come out clicking on all cylinders tomorrow and they need all the rolls, lol. Regardless of the final score, I must say I've been very impressed with the poise and professionalism of this group of guys. Now let's sweep day four!!!!

Well said.

He did the exact same thing on the final 9-ball last year as well.

Last year when Feijen made the final 9 ball the ref didn't pick up the cue and the cueball came around and hit the cue. In most 9 ball games this would be a foul but no one was paying any attention as the celebration had started. I'm not sure if anyone on the American team saw it but if they did they didn't bother to call it because they were so defeated.

I pretty much agree with most of this sentiment. I like watching Archer play, but I really think it's a testosterone filled setting best suited to some of the younger guys. I definitely like the mention of Mike and Skylar and think Mike should have been on the team this year. As for Schmidt, he's a fish out of water. Lou and some of the other guys are vehemently defending him and I'm sure he gave his best, but it's just not good enough. He's a specialist (straight pool) and they're playing nine ball. On top of that, he just doesn't seem to have the nerves for that environment. Bergman can play, but I, too, don't like his "I could care less" look that he projects. Maybe he just needs more international competition. He certainly can play at times and is more suited to nine ball than Schmidt. As for Corey, that's the one point I don't really agree with. I thought Corey was fine. I think he only struggled when Schmidt kept trying to tell him how to play. Corey was in the mindset to win and played well when Schmidt left him alone.

As an early forecast, I'll take the following for next year's team (Not giving up on a comeback this year yet though!)

SVB
Hall
Deuel
Skylar
Dechaine

(Sorry Earl, you still have the game, your antics are just too embarrassing on a world stage and the sport doesn't need that right now. It's also hard for me to leave Archer off of this list. Watching him play is worth the price of admission at any event. He would be my first alternate.)

Vehemently defending Schmidt?!

No. John and I have had our issues, but I can't deny the man and must call them as I see them. He played no worse than almost anyone playing on either team. To cull him out of the herd is more than unjust. 9ball is a funny game and it is not always about the score.

And really?! A US Open 9ball *champion* doesn't have the nerves for the game, lol.

Given this crowd, the ref might have picked up Niels' cue simply to avoid a soccer riot.

Is it too late for them to play SVB all six tomorrow???? :)

Can't do that, but he could play three times tomorrow, all singles:

• He must play Match 15, since he didn't play in Matches 12-14.
• Then all players have to play once in Matches 16-20, if it goes that far.
• Then if it gets to hill/hill, the Captain can pick anyone.

So, Shane could still emerge as an enormous Cup hero by winning 3 singles matches on the final day. Of course, that requires his teammates to win at least 3 other matches.

[Alternatively, USA could just sweep 6 matches in a row tomorrow and never get to hill/hill. Shane would get 2 of those matches.]

That Match 11 Nikos/Boyes-Schmidt/Hall is worst quality pro match I have seen in long time . It will go down in MC history as worst match ever . The Accustats TPA must be lowest in MC history . What a painful match to watch. Multiple errors in almost every each by both sides. No one wanted to win . Joke of a match. They should be penalised by deducting their prizemoney
