Is that because E8B is the biggest game in australia and the game you play the most?
It is a universal truism players like best what they have and what they already play. Try getting a snooker player to play 9 ball or, even, a world rules specialist to switch to blackball. I've given up trying to explain the benefits of other games/rules. The mindset of the average cue sport enthusiast is immutable.
Indeed. I've played tons more E8B than "A"8B as that's what was played wherever I was most of the time. Always preferred real pool though rather than mini-yellow-and-red-ball-snookerpool-play-away-from-touching-ball-and-endless-discussions-about-one-or-two-shots-on-the-black (are these guys for real?). There's nothing wrong with E8B but it is a pub game - and the whole concept of "American" pool shows players up for having no idea what game they are playing. Yes the best players are as good as the best players in other cuesports and that's fine - but if they are not going to transfer those skills to pool or snooker then they will always be recreational world champions.
If Gareth Potts had what Selby has he would be playing snooker for a living. He doesn't have it. And he could walk into some major "A" (read real) pool tourneys on a wild card based on his success at C8B. He doesn't appear to have put himself to the fore though. Maybe he's happy where he is and is making a good living - but C8B won't last - it is neither one thing nor the other.
