Professional Pool......................

So many posts about "pro" players quitting matches, leaving pool for Chinese whatever, not enough money, complaining, complaining, complaining........

Here is something that WE all should have figured out by now. There is NO money in pool PERIOD!!! Not in leagues, not in tournaments, not in the pro's (if you could even call it pro's).

So if you want to dedicate your life to become the best at something that does NOT pay anything of any significance.......well that is your choice!!! You made that decision, no one else.

Your talents are admired yes!! However until there is real money in this sport, admiration is all you will ever receive!

If you have chosen pool as your profession, and need to survive off of the monies you earn from it, you have made a terrible choice.

Everyone of us have chosen a career path, most of us however have chosen paths that allow us the ability to pay our bills. We too have worked to achieve a level of excellence, to move up the ladder successfully. Our pay however is not based on sponsorships, or a fan base spending money. It is based on conducting ourselves appropriately and doing our jobs within the boundaries of our field.

In other words we act, dress, speak, and behave in a such a way that earns us respect in our desired field of employment, which is what makes us professionals!! If we did not do these things we would not be called professionals we would be called unemployed.

If you want to be a "professional" at something talent isn't enough, you need a governing body with rules that you must adhere too, much like an employer. You need to act, dress, speak, and behave like a professional......then you can call yourself a professional, and then you will start to make real money.

Until the best of our best in this pool community begin respecting this sport, and acting like PROFESSIONALS, they should not expect to be paid, treated or respected as such.

Please stop all the complaining and find a better career if you are not happy with your current one!

Yes...this.

I posted in another thread about people always saying "This is what's wrong with pool".

Pool is what it is ... either enjoy it for what it is or don't. But to ***** about it does no good. Wake up and smell the coffee........

Not saying I wouldn't love to see it more mainstream and to see the pros making a living from it, but that is just not going to happen.

I think the problem is that pool is different things to different people.

To some its the tournaments and pro tours with the promise of big competition. To others it might be gambling in towns while driving from dive bar to dive bar. And then there's the crowd who thinks it could be a fun activity for all ages and more about building communities than the stakes.

As long as pool continues leaving as much money on the table as it does now, those three motivations are going to continue to fight over the scraps.
