Upgraded Shaft for Schmelke?

Hey Guys! I have a low end Schmelke, 4 prong in Cocobola that I absolutely love.
Although the shaft is pretty decent, I would like to upgrade it to maybe a LD.
I would like to hear suggestions on which shaft you think would work well with the Schmelke butt. I know its best to try different one's, but I just dont have a lot of access to do that. I play at a decent speed (highest levels in APA) so I would like to hear also
some feedback on whether some of you better players feel it will benefit me or not. Again, I know that its really hard to tell without actually playing with it, but I like hearing imput from accomplished players. Thanks in advance.........:thumbup:
 
I'm a big fan of the OB2. The good thing is that OB has 4 distinctly different low-deflection shafts to choose from...and great customer service. Made in good ole USofA.

With an OB shaft, your cue will look just like my OB121 (cocobolo sneaky).
 
I've got a 16.5 oz Schmelke R1C butt that I use with a Predator 314-2 shaft and a Kamui Black Hard tip. This butt/shaft combo has a very solid feel and offers superb control.

If you play anything better than C speed, switching shafts to ANYTHING other than what you are used to is just going to screw up your game

I'm playing with a Tiger Ultra X LD shaft and while it has LD in the name, it plays really well compared to a maple shaft. I can hop back and forth no problem.

Now those Predator and OB shafts, I don't want anything to do with them lol
 
Don't play Schmelke. I have a Joss and just got an OB 2 plus with soft Kamui tip and love it. It has a very soft hit that works for me. Great for getting shape in tight situations. Still trying to get used to it for long finesse shots. I have only had it for a week but so far I am liking it.

I would say if you play A speed (shortstop speed) or B+ I would not recommend, because you are playing fairly high level already.... but C speed could help their game, its about the time hitting shots with more spin kinda fcks them up....Schmidt is higher than a C I think ;)

LOL I see your point, but you know that's not what I meant

I was saying that learning a new shaft is certainly going to set your game back BEFORE you would see any benefits of going LD.

If you start with an LD shaft then that's great...
Or if you want to dedicate several months of table time to changing your game to adapt and LD shaft, then that's great too...

But if you think you can throw an LD shaft on ANY butt, and expect any increase in your skills... you would be extremely disappointed in the results.
