This weeks practice is really paying off in competition!

Earlier this week I made a post about how I started a new practice session where I set up an easy 9-ball layout and tried to run it out as many times as possible. I practiced this way a few times this week and it really made me focus a little more on not just making each shot but actually striving for perfect cue ball position.

Well, last night I played a 10-ahead 9-ball set with a friend that actually got me into pool and has been playing for a long time. He should beat the hell out of me considering he has been playing for 15 years and I'm at about 2.5 years but for the last 8 months or so we have been playing even and we have been very competitive. He often gets upset and *****es about rolls and bad luck but he usually beats me in the end.

Well, I'm proud to say that last night the only thing he was *****ing about was that I wouldn't miss lol. He ended up quitting when I was 5 ahead and told me he needs weight from now on! I can't believe it. He has such an ego that I thought I would never hear those words come out of his mouth. This is a huge milestone for me and I think I just boosted my game and confidence up another level.

I believe I owe it to my practice routine this week. The extra focus allowed me to stay in line and run out many tough layouts. I also practiced hitting full table shots with the cue ball jacked up against the rail right before we played and I made about 5 of those in our match that I normally miss. Today I'm feeling good :)

P.S. He is a good friend of mine and it's not about the money so we played a second set of 8-ball where he won his money back. He is a better 8-ball player than me for sure. 8-ball is my next conquest...

Good shooting.

9 ball is more or less connect the dots. 8 ball is a whole different animal. It's more lil a chess game. Selecting the proper pattern is critical along with knowing how to pocket and break out problem balls at the same time.

Good luck in your quest to kick his butt in 8 ball also:grin:

Practicing the same run many times is a great way to learn, and much better than just breaking and running random racks. If you ever find yourself at a plateau, then consider working on your mechanics as well. Good job on the win!

Great shooting!
Do not give your friend weight, what he needs is practice.
