Watching the SEA games I thought "what if instead of the US, Europeans had to battle the Asians in the Mosconi Cup". We'd have Philipino, Japanese, Chinese players vs England, Finland, etc...

Would Europe be the underdogs?

I did not add the US players in the mix since I think we all would agree it's tough to get 5 US players that can go against the best 5 Euro or Asia players head to head and win half the time.

hmmm

Notice the problem with all of this? Its the US vs all of Europe -.- give us North America so we can have John Morra and Alex Pagulayan. I dare the Mosconi to let that happen. Europe would get destroyed if we were able to add Jayson Shaw when he gets his citizenship, Alex, Morra, Shane and a pick of the litter.

Now to your topic. Europe would definitely be the underdog.

My line up:

Ko Pin Yi
Ko Pin Chung
Dennis Orcollo
Carlo Biado
Jung Lin Chang

Edit I might replace Carlo with Lee Van Corteza because of experience and past doubles with Orcollo

The Mosconi Cup started when the US was the dominant pool force on the planet, by far. Maybe the Philipinos were there, but not Europe or rest of Asia. Just the US vs Europe 10 years ago was a very equal match as can be seen by the results over the years. Up till the last decade or so, US has put a hurt on Europe. Plus the best team of the US has not always been sent which also will cause issues with winning.

I watched some older matches with Japanese and Chinese players and they looked like B players trying to play with the pros, especially the women. I have and older women's world match where they had US players play Asian women, and it was pretty bad to watch, they looked like mid-level league players. These days the Asian women are unbeatable.

If it was team of 5 players only and they play MC format, it would be about even maybe with Europe would be slight underdog as Asia have much younger team and they have more to choose from whereas the top Europe will be mid30 to early 40s
But if it was like Europe top 20 players v Asia top 20 players, Europe would be big underdog simply cos Asia just have more top players in their ranks

Add to that plenty of options like
Jeff Ignacio
Alcano
Wu
Chang Yu Lung
Kuo Po Cheng
Kevin Cheng
Buste
Yuki

:D

Both Asia and Europe can field an A team full of active world champions and the resulting competition would be a coin flip, but Asia is the only continent that can field a B and probably a C team full of active world champions.
